Wild-eyed, Saia tried to help, but their native guide was much stronger and her attempts to help were mostly for show and she seemed more like a spotter for a just in case that would most likely not be needed.
Qip fell backwards as the Federation nurse was freed with his hands from the darkening snow and ice. His feet gave out beneath him and the warm body of the young woman fell down along the surface next to him. As the day quickly shifted to night, he could sense the edges of the snow beginning to turn more solid and hard. Ice. Digging the other out was going to be much more difficult.
"We must hurry. Can you call your people?" Qip asked through heavy breathing.
Saia shook her head and hit her comm again, "I keep trying!" Saia went to her comrades to check vital signs, and hoping the actual medical experts would feel up to giving real triage checks. She especially hoped no one was hurt very badly. Having to squint and lean closer, she was aware of the darkness, "We have to get back to the camp!"
Because of the cold Ens deLaar's muscles refused to do anything. She felt embaressed and shocked how much she had underestimated the effects of the cold snow. Lying on the snow like a fish on dry land she looked at the others:
"We must find Markus and Matthew. If they are still alive, then time is running against them. We can't let them down."
"We need help!" Saia shot back before reaching for her tricorder but finding it not in her holster. In a panic, she began to dig into the snow, hoping to find one of her crewmates or the tricorder. "CALDWELL! LOCKE!" She screamed, hoping they could hear her ... Then something hit her. Some trauma much older than her time on Vindicator. Her mind shot back to Trill. The museum. The crashed starship. Her parents. She dug more frantically.
