383 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Memorias Rotundum
Location: Bridge / Astrometrics

Saia looked over the scans and knew deep down she was sad. Heart broken, even. But she was numb and tired and the only emotion she could feel was anger. She cursed in a loud mumble, gripping the console until her knuckles became white.

She glared at the readings, daring any of them to show enemies. She heard the orders and still seething, went to work assuring the transporters got every single victim. She tabbed at her console with a bit more force than required, at times too much to allow the computer to recognize the command.

Saia's frustration was evident to one of her scientists who moved along side her and whispered, "I can relieve you if you need to go to astrometrics for the more intense scanning data."

Astrometrics. If there any enemies, they'd be seen there. She nodded, "Permission to go to Astrometrics." Before the compliance was even given, the turbolift door was closed.

Once there, she moved to a console, crowding out whoever was there and tapping in filters and tweaks, checking the data, and typing in new filters and tweaks, and did this for fifteen minutes.

There were targets, but they weren't hers to make marks on. The captain already made his decision and the course was laid out.

She was trembling and beads of sweat formed on her brow even though she would have kept raising the temperature in the lab until there was a complaint by an officer threatening to ignore the uniform code in order not to die from heat stroke. Saia figured it was a bit of a hyperbole, but she ordered it back to standard.

"Perhaps you should go to sickbay."

She glared at the officer. "No. I'm going back to the bridge. Keep those filters on a rotation on the side and keep a tight eye on them. I can't afford to be vulnerable." Catching herself, "And by I, I mean, we, and by we, I mean the Federation."

On the turbolift, she paused it and tried to calm herself. It worked a little, but she was trembling still when she returned to the bridge. When asked if she was ok, she just kept watching her console and said something as a report on the data there, completely ignoring any personal questions.
