Mission: In the Dark

The middle of the day had to be Rochelle's least favorite. It was a buzz with activity and the ship was more busy than ever with new crew transfers and the budding hope of leaving the ship yard's growing to a wild crescendo once word had gotten out that the Captain had cleared final repairs. Big things were on the horizon, the promise of vacation being one of them and from there? Infinite possibilities no less.

The young woman, however, had her mind on the here and now. Each PADD that came across her desk had to be carefully gone over and cross referenced with care and precision. A perfectionist by nature, she'd long ago chosen the world of tactics over the desk jockey research jobs -- and now she knew why. Praised by the stamina of those who had to write and read these things, she thought.

Inventories were the bane of mankind in Robyn Maxwells opinion, a necessary evil that sought to numb the mind and frequently succeeded, so it was a welcome relief to take the opportunity for a change of scene.

The turbolift stopped smoothly at Deck 1 releasing its passenger who stepped out and stood for a moment looking left and right.
Having reached the Captains Ready Room, she sounded the chime and waited for a response quickly smoothing her already immaculate uniform.

"Enter." Called the Captain, her feet sliding under the chair ever so slightly, unconsciously moving to hide the coffee stain Landon had told her about in his farewell letter.

Robyn approached the figure seated behind a laden desk, came a halt saluted and announced herself as: "Ensign Maxwell reporting for duty Ma'am." said She leaned forward slightly to hand yet another padd for the Captains perusal.

Rochelle looked up at the sound of her ready room doors sliding open. The appearance of a new face was refreshing, a delight, even if it meant more paperwork. "Welcome aboard, Ensign. Have a seat." She smiled warmly, accepting the PADD in one hand and motioning to the empty chairs on the other side of the cherry wood desk. "I trust your transfer was smooth?" The casual conversation quickly fell into place as the young Captain read the woman's orders. Another medical officer, a sincerely welcomed addition.

"Yes it was, thank you." Robyn replied, totally banishing the thought of Norbert Bernard which popped into her mind. "It's a huge change from the Lunar Hospital but I'm looking forward to working here very much." She met the Captains gaze when she looked up from reading the padd.

A single sanguine eye brow lifted a small margin at the sight of the Ensign brave enough to make eye contact. Refreshing, indeed, or so she thought as she checked off a few things, updating the PADD, before sliding it back towards the other woman. "Your quarter assignment are in there and I'm sure you can find someone to assist you in moving your belongings in." She said, her hands coming to rest against the cool cherry wood. "Your department head should be on duty now. I haven't met him personally as he too is fresh aboard the ship, but from what I've heard on the grapevine you should get along famously."

"Thank you Ma'am." Robyn reached to pick up the padd glancing quickly at the alterations as she did so.

"This Command has an open door policy. If you need something, you only need to ask. Commander Waterhouse and myself make our best efforts to be available." The petite redhead sat back in her chair, deeply enjoy the warmth and security it provided as she spoke with the new crew member, "Do you have any questions for me off the bat?"

"None that spring to mind but thank you." Robyn replied. " I'm going to familiarize myself with my department as soon as possible and generally get my bearings on the ship...it's 'different'" she ended hoping that she wasn't saying too much in reply to the Captain's question.

Another smile tugged at the redhead's lips as she nodded to the doctor's words. Her candid nature was refreshing. "Good. I look forward to working with you, Ensign."

"Thank you Ma'am" Robyn replied getting to her feet. She paused a moment in case Captain Ivanova had more to say.

Rochelle, too, found her feet out of respect and walked around the desk to see the young officer out. "My pleasure." She said."Enjoy the rest of your day."

The door slid open and Robyn retraced her steps to the turbo lift thinking that the first meeting with the Captain had not been at all bad.
