Joint Personal Log - LtCmdr Waterhouse & Cmdr PontBrillant - "Fall Fast And Not Very Well"

1,136 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: In the Dark

It'd been eating at her since she left Rochelle's ready room after the coronation incident. His little quip about her hat, her Stetson, when she arrived. And then he'd swanned out of there to deal with the tall bronzed asshole, so she didn't have a chance to corner him. So she found herself standing outside the door to his quarters, and working up the nerve to ring the chime.

She'd changed out of the Aquaman shirt and the shorts, it'd been a little too surreal staring down the Atlantean in an Aquaman shirt, especially one that quipped about Aquaman making her wet. So now she wore a sun dress in a sky blue with the stetson boots and hat.

Vlimar was sitting nonchalantly on his bed, finishing the last chapter of "The Art of War", while drinking a coffee. He had been working a lot lately, plus the recent coronation of Rochelle killed the remainder of his energy. Slowly, as he read his book, thinking about going to bed, he brought the cup to his lips.

Finally with a sigh, Amelia reached out and pressed the chime. She'd been standing in the corridor long enough that if she didn't, someone was bound to notice and comment.

As he heard the chime, Vlimar took a quick sip of his coffee, fast enough to be on the bound of being choked by the liquid, but managed to contain it. "Come," he called, putting the book down on the night stand, standing up on his feet in his immaculate apartment.

Amelia pressed the button to open the door, but didn't enter. She was still a little hesitant on why she was here, and she felt like she was intruding.

Vlimar made his way to the door, as his angle of view wasn't showing who was on the other side of it. Expecting another impromptu visit from crewman Thomas, probably coming to complain about how understaffed they were, how the system were not like they were before, and so on. Vlimar approached the door with intent of dismissing whoever was there to disturb him. As the door open, he noticed Amelia. He remained speechless for a few seconds, observing her.

"Good evening," she said, smiling. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

Vlimar smiled as he reached the frame of his door. "No, of course not," he stated. He motioned inside his quarters. "Do you wish to come in?" he asked, immediately realizing how suggestive that might have sounded.

She smiled, and breezed inside. No hesitation Pond, you're here for a reason, she told herself. "Did mister tall, bronze, and assholeish give you any further trouble after you lead him out of the ready room?" Maybe a detour first, she mused. No need to jump right to it.

Vlimar shrugged. "Well, not really. Trouble was all his, really," he stated, remembering the incident inside the turbolift. Vlimar motioned the couch to Amelia, trying to be hospitable. "Anything to drink?" he offered, smiling softly.

"Trouble?" She tilted her head to the side as she settled on the couch. "Limeade?" she requested in response to the offered drink.

Vlimar grinned. Obviously, he did not have any fresh limeade available so he walked to the replicator and ordered some for his guest. A few seconds later, he walked back with the glass in his hand, setting it in front of Amelia, sitting on the couch next to her. "More of an... inconvenience," he confirmed, laughing.

"Inconvenience?" She plucked her hat from her head, and placed it on the coffee table before collecting the limeade.

Vlimar smiled as he saw the hat going from her head into the table. He took a few seconds to observe Amelia's clothing, noticing the dress showing off the magnificent curves of Amelia's toned body, then smiled. "I am sure you will hear all about it soon enough," he stated, while taking a sip of his coffee. He then, simply, pointed at the hat, puzzled.

"That sounds ominous," Amelia observed, eying him sidelong. "Is what's his name, Mikkal is it? Is he going to lodge a formal complaint against you?" She smirked as she noticed him pointing to the hat, but she'd get to that soon.

Vlimar cracked up laughing. "I seriously doubt that..." he stated, smiling. He took the hat and looked inside of it, confirming his thoughts about the hat being from the company Stetson. "It is a nice hat," he said, yet another attempt to change the subject.

"It is," Amelia allowed, reaching to take it back almost protectively, though she tried to hide it. "It was a gift," she added. She felt like she needed to ask more about Mikkal, but she'd let it lie for now. It wasn't why she was here.

"It was quite the event earlier," he stated, generalizing and downgrading the entire situation. He slowly took another sip of his coffee, then looked at her. "What can I do for you, Amelia?" he asked, as he was not entirely sure why she ended up at his quarters, unannounced and unplanned like that.

"I, well, you made a comment about the hat during that event, and I-" she suddenly felt really silly showing up at his quarters over something so small. She cradled the hat in her lap, and hid behind her limeade.

"and you...?" continued Vlimar, puzzled. He was, indeed, confused now as if Amelia actually came in to talk about her hat or was it used as an excuse to get into his... quarters.

Amelia shook her head, and stood up quickly. "I'm sorry, I'm disturbing you. Excuse me," she blurted out, setting down the half finished limeade, and started for the door.

Vlimar look at Amelia walk towards the door, puzzled. "Wait? What... what's going on?" he asked, standing from his couch.

Amelia was out the door before he finished speaking, and disappeared down the corridor. She came to a stop around the corner, and leaned back against the wall holding her hat in front of her face to hide the color her face was turning. She absolutely could not believe she just did that.

Vlimar saw his door slide shut. Standing, alone, in the middle of his living room, he looked confused and disappointed. "What did I say?" he asked to himself, worried. After all, Vlimar believed he might have had insulted the woman and/or the Executive Officer, both prospects he would rather not have. He thought of going after her, but it might look desperate and disrespectful for Amelia. There was a miscommunication, he was sure of it. However, using his accumulated wisdom of his numerous years, he sat back down on his couch, sipping his coffee.
