Mission: Secret Meetings
Location: Ready Room

=*= Ready Room, USS Vindicator =*=

After the meeting with Elar Tripae headed for Neyes' office. Still fuming from how Elar acted in front of the chief engineer she was wearily of the spoon head as well but he was still apart of the senior staff no matter what his species was. Hitting the chime she waited for the CO to allow entrance to her.

Landon sat in his offfice, a slight breeze rusting the edges of his mouth. The lobe of his ear nestled against his shoulder, one hand in his lap, the other hanging off the edge of his arm rest. A rumbling buzz sounding from his throat It had been nearly two days since he'd heard from Starfleet, or had a good chance to take more than a few hours sleep.

Unfortunately sleep was an inevitability.

Neyes was firmly planted into an unintentional nap. His consciousness had collapsed sometime between his review of the comm systems and the staffing log by Cmdr Ivanova.

The chime threw him, startled, upward in his seat. His eyes widened for a moment before a forced yawn slowly bellowed from deep within him. He quickly wiped at his eyes, brushed his uniform and called out, "Ah, ehm... Enter."

"My apologies captain for not calling ahead but this can't wait. After we did the scans of the debris I brought in our chief engineer to see if he had any ideas of what might've caused the runabout to explode but he was unable to find anything new. And he was requested either to go out there himself or bring the stuff into a cargo bay but I felt that I should speak with you first before we did anything." Tripae said.

Neyes nodded, "Do you think there's something you can discover that we weren't able to detect with sensors?"

"The chief engineer thinks so." Tripae said taking a seat and looking at the captain.

"I see no reason not to investigate a little further. Have the bay crew tractor the wreckage into Shuttlebay three. You can use one of the maintenance bays." Neyes wiped a little more tired from his eyes, trying to look as collected as possible.

Triape nodded, "now......with that look you've in your eyes theres been something that you've been holding inside and by my guess if you don't let it out soon you'll most likely end up in sickbay. Now instead of doing the whole thing why not just let someone in?"

Landon found counseling to be something of a sham. In his experience there were few things a person couldn't accomplish with a little discussion with anyone. He didn't need one individual person to take responsibility for his emotional well-being, and yet here he was, faced with a woman he barely knew who wanted in.

Neyes held her gaze for a moment, a tenuous string of thoughts flooded his mind as he imagined what he would say if he allowed himself to let he worry and uncertainty about their predicament unravel. Unraveling was a good metaphor for it, though, as allowing the floodgates to open up to someone as out of place as a marine combat officer would set a precedent he was unwilling to see take place. The crew needed to know he was strong enough to see through the muddled, cloudy future.

"There are things," he stopped short, "... things I can't say I expected to happen. I didn't think I'd be sitting in the big chair as my Captain lay unconscious in Sickbay. I knew anything is possible, but nothing quite prepares your constitution for that responsibility to be thrown at you. I imagined the responsibility to be set down as delicately as a mantle, instead I have had to catch it at a running pace."

As true as his words were, they were simply an outline of how he imagined his role in taking command of the ship. He had imagined being much more self-conscious, instead he was haunted with the constant fear of letting the crew down. Every time he passed a member of the crew he'd ignored as the helmsman on board, he kicked himself as the Captain for those action. The inner struggle of wrestling down his own expectations had been taking it's toll.

Now that he sat before Lione, having this discussion, it was clear some of the crew had begun to notice.

"Fair enough." Tripae said she also thought counseling was a sham but she saw this as just two officers talking with one another and hopefully allowing everyone to help get to the bottom of what was going on.

"I'd like to get the wreckage and get back on the move as soon as possible, Lieutenant. Sitting here idly waiting for the other shoe to drop is, frankly, stressing me out." He turned and addressed her previous inquiry. "I have a lot of memories, Ms. Lione. Very few of them are what I would call ideal. I've learned over the centuries to accept the hand I'm dealt, but thank you for your concern."

"Of course sir. I'll get on that right away and let you know what we find." Tripae added standing up deciding to maybe try this at a later time.

Neyes sat back down at 'his' desk and looked about the room. He had thirty minutes before he needed to approve the systems status reports. A deep sigh escaped him as he closed his eyes and leaned back, trying to resume his nap.
