Mission: Secret Meetings
Another day, another damned counselor, Almar mused as he strode down to one of the offices as directed by the computer, he was looking for the newcomer, the one whom he had met earlier.
Walking up to the desk, he gave a slight smile to the officer on duty and cleared his throat, "Lieutenant Commander Dahe'el, I have an appointment with Lieutenant Larel."
Cody looked up from the padd he was working on, updating his last patient's file, when he heard someone outside the door. Sighing, he tapped his combadge and said "Its ok Jenny, send him in. I'm just about done here." He hadn't been on board for but a few hours, and he already had a backlog of appointments to see. So much for unpacking and settling in.
Almar stepped in through the door and gave a nod to the counselor, "Lieutenant, it is good to see you have settled in, I have an appointment, ordered by Captain Dar, the previous CO due to the incident marked in my file." he said as he stood next to one of the free chairs.
Not standing, Cody indicated the chair across from him, and said "Please take a seat. Before we begin, you're going to have to give me an overview about what you are here to discuss. I haven't had time to review many crew profiles."
"While on shore leave on Earth, I was attacked by a group of humans, severely enough to warrant medical attention and restricted duties for the duration of my recovery process," Almar replied as he read off the file he had in his mind, "As part of my recovery, Captain Dar deemed it necessary that I undergo psychological analysis before resuming full duties."
Nodding, Cody made a few notes on his padd, and said "I'm sorry that happened to you Commander. How does it affect you on a day-to-day basis? Do you have a shorter temper, flashbacks, nightmares or anything similar?"
"It doesn't affect me much, however I do get much more nervous around unfamiliar faces, even amongst the crew," the Cardassian replied, "The attack was motivated by my race, despite the fact I was in uniform at the time."
"I understand" he replied, then added "do I make you nervous Commander?" He just wanted to get a sense of how deep the experience had affected the man.
"Every new face does Lieutenant," Almar replied honestly, "The uniform didn't stop them from attacking me on Earth and I really doubt it would stop them here, if someone chose to take it as far again."
Nodding, Cody replied "I hope that with time it will become easier for you Commander. I would advise regular meetings with me to discuss how your handling things. It would also be beneficial for you to possibly try to slowly start spending time with people in a casual setting. Perhaps spending time with others in a relaxed way would help you with your recovery. How does that sound?"
"It sounds reasonable," the Cardassian replied slowly after a few moments of thought, "My assistant has been suggesting that I join her and a few of the other engineers on the holodeck occasionally, I've been putting it off, using my recovery as an excuse, but I guess I do not have that luxury anymore."
Smiling slightly, he replied "No, you need to try to push yourself slightly Commander. I know it will be difficult at first, but I'm confident your staff will be patient and helpful in allowing you to adjust. Talking with me about it afterwards will also help you to process how it made you feel."
"I understand Lieutenant," Almar replied with a slight smile as his comm badge went off.
"Chief, Arn has found the source of the problems with the Environmental systems, he's asked for you to come and take a look at it, says it's important." came the voice of Almar's assistant on the comm.
"I'll be there as soon as possible, Dahe'el out," the Cardassian replied before flashing a slightly guilty look at the counselor, "If we're done here Lieutenant, I think I should deal with this."
Nodding, Cody stood and extended a hand "It's been a pleasure talking with you Commander. I look forward to speaking with you again, and seeing you casually around the ship. If you ever need to talk, even without an appointment, let me know ok?"
"I shall," Almar replied as he shook the offered hand and moved toward the door.
