Mission: Secret Meetings
Location: Main Engineering, USS Vindicator

Thrum Thrum, Thrum Thrum, Thrum Thrum

Two of the cores active on the Vindicator made the entire Engineering bay quiver with energy as they pulsed in series, the first and third cores were currently running at full power with the other two in hot standby, given that there was a Romulan fleet waiting for them, the ship needed to draw extra power at a moments notice.

"Mr Kal, increase the power output of the fourth core up to twenty five percent, reduce core three to seventy five," Almar ordered as he stepped out of his office and over to the pool table, bringing up schematics of the engines and reviewing the flow of antimatter, "We're having a few problems regulating the flow on the third core, once the fourth is running and stable, transfer all power usage and shut down core three for diagnostics."

"Aye sir," came the reply from the distributions officer behind him and to the left, a crossover officer with Operations.

Thrum Thrum, Thrum... Thrum, Thrum....... Thrum, Thrum....... Thrum Thrum

As the power was transferred, the noise from them changed in time as the output was lessened from one and another began to take up the slack.

"Power transfer complete," the Cardassian read out as he monitored the cores from the 'Pool table', "Shutting down Core three," he relayed as he reached for his comm badge, "Hakir, Dorv and Meltirna, report to Main Engineering to assist me with diagnostics, repair and maintainence on one of the Warp Cores."

A chorus of positive replies, including Dorv's insistance that, whatever was wrong, wasn't his fault, made Almar smile as he moved back over to his office and picked up the toolbox from just inside the door.

The Cardassian made his way over to the railings surrounding the huge Quantite Fusion Core Assembly and slid his toolbox under first, following in its place and sitting with his feet resting on the lower floor of the Injector Assembly for the third core, he moved his toolbox so that it sat facing the core and dropped himself through the railing, before him sat a multitude of access panels, each one leading to something they'd need to fix.

Clangs from behind Almar marked the arrival of his team, each one with their own toolbox and specific set of skills, "Right, lets get the cover off, Meltirna and Hakir, help me," he began as he pulled a few tools out of his box, "Dorv, you monitor our progress from the console above."

Slowly, the three Engineers managed to unhook the panel and laid it to one side, the young woman, the one called Meltirna, proving to be much stronger than the two men, her half Klingon heritage giving her a strength beyond most Human women.

"Alright, the flow has been redirected, so we just need to make sure we don't destabilise the magnetic couplings, double check everything before you begin working on something." the Cardassian ordered as he slid himself to the other side of the injector and pulled a tool from his box, redirecting the power away from the section he'd be working on.

"Be careful," Almar called out as a surge passed along the section he had just deactivated, "There's a bit of residual power being thrown from somewhere, I think that might be the source of our problems."

No sooner as he uttered the warning, Hakir was thrown backwards against the bulkhead surrounding the core, blue arcs connecting him with the injector assembly, Meltirna managed to get herself clear and without a second thought, began shutting off the power to that section as soon as she could, the older Human man fell to the deck and lay motionless.

"Medical Emergency in Main Engineering." the Cardassian shouted as he tapped his commbadge, "Engineer injured by a discharge while working on the injector assembly," he stated before getting back to work, knowing there wasn't much he could do to help Hakir, they needed to get the injector working, incase they needed to activate the third core, during a combat situation.

"Mel, disconnect the power coupling and shunt the excess power back through the EPS taps," Almar suggested as he did the same on the opposite side, "Once it is clear, take the coupling and purge it's access and distribution subroutines and reinitialise them with your tricorder, that should also show us if there are any physical weaknesses in the unit."

Perhaps two foot long, the coupling took a few minutes to come free, both Engineers finishing up at about the same time, in a matter of seconds, they both had their tricorders out and were scanning the units, using the connections to begin the purge.

A bustle of activity from above signalled the arrival of the medical team, they had lifted the injured engineer out of the lower section and were prepping him for an emergency transport to sickbay.

As he dematerialised, both of the tricorders let off a series of beeps, indicating that the purge had been finished and that the couplings were free of faults, both physical and from their software, "Begin reinitialising the units, we need to get these reinstalled and sealed as soon as possible."
