Rael was in the armory looking through the database, looking for something particular he had overheard some of the crew talking about. "Ah-ha!" He said grinning as he finally found what he was looking for. Rael saw himself as an intelligent guy but the specs for the Little Big Sound Probes was well way over his head.

But he also saw a large practical use for them with the 51st, especially with SAROPS and even in CQB situations. Looking at the by-line he found the creator of these devices. Standing, he grabbed a PaDD but decided that he should call down first, "Lieutenant Zola, this is sergeant Rael'Zorath Ryya, Sergeant at Arms for the 51st. I was hoping that you had a few minuets to spare?"

Zola twisted in the Jefferies tube and reached for her combadge. "Up to my ears in a power fluctuation, but regs say I was due for a break probably an hour ago... whatcha' need?" She curled herself into an oddly hunched sitting position so she could keep working as she held the conversation. Now she'd have to switch back to tricorder, as the conversation would get in the way of listening for it.

"I was hoping to pick your brain about your device that help locate Neyes and Ivanova. I believe they've a huge potential as a excellent piece of equipment for the 51st." Rael said scanning the specs as he spoke.

"The Little Big Sound Probes?" Zola scratched her head with the edge of the tricorder, and shrugged. "Where do you want to meet?"

"The mess, or I can meet you in engineering if that makes it easier for you," Rael said not minding either spot to meet and talk.

Zola considered what junction she was in, and mentally considered where in the ship she was. "I'm closer to the mess right now. I'll meet you in five." She started to crawl towards the nearest access hatch that would let her out by a turbolift.

"Copy that." Rael said standing up. He left the armory, making sure it was locked up tight, and headed for the mess. Walking in he grabbed a coffee and took a seat at one of the tables, looking over the specs again.

Zola skittered into the mess, brushing dust off her uniform, and looked around. The man had said he was a sergeant... that's Marine, right? Zola wasn't entirely sure, but she looked for a green uniform as she made her way past the replicator for a raktajino. She spotted someone in Marine green, and headed over to his table. She found herself around eye level with his seated form and she caught sight of the sergeant's rank pin.

"Sergeant Rael'Zorath Ryya?" she asked.

"That's me. And you can call me Rael," Rael said with a polite smile, "it's a pleasure to meet you Lieutenant," he said quickly standing and pulling the chair out for Zola, hoping that wasn't crossing a line, he was just raised to be a gentlemen at all times.

Zola's eyes followed him upwards as he stood. If she wasn't used to being the smaller humanoid in the room at all times, it might have actually scared her to have him so close and more than a foot taller than her, and he was far from the tallest person in the crew. She slid into the offered chair with a large grin, displaying her sharp little teeth.

"Rael," she repeated his name, trying it on her tongue. "Thank you," she added in response to the chair, and watched him sit down again. "What did you want to know about the probes?"

"Mainly the long term upkeep of the probes. And also the basic inner workings so that I can show members of the 51st how to fix them if they fail on a mission." Rael said looking at Zola, "the 51st unfortunately doesn't have any artificers. Which makes dealing with equipment malfunctions on missions difficult."

"There's really no long term upkeep," Zola admitted, clutching the Klingon coffee mug in her hands, and holding her face in the steam coming off it. "They were designed for a quick deploy, swarm approach where if one fails, others will move in to take its place. They're usually going to be single use, and if they're recovered when they're done, recycled into the replicator. With the sheer number usually deployed, there's no way to guarantee that most will be collected when they're done being used, so they designed to break down fairly quickly, a month or two exposure to normal elements and they'll be unusable, and six months to a year and it'll only be trace elements left behind."

"Oh..." Rael said in surprise, "that actually makes things easier on me. How long does replication take for them?"

"I'm not sure? Depends on how many you want, I think..." Zola finally took a sip of the raktajino in front of her, and smiled at it. "I've only replicated them once, and I'm sure you know the feeling, when in the middle of a crisis, everything seems to go so fast and so slow all at once..."

Rael nodded, knowing that feeling all too well, as he sipped his coffee. "My hope is that for the ops they'll be used on with the 51st, I'll have enough warning to replicate them. But I am glad that you designed them, I think they're gonna be quite useful in the future."

"If you're expecting last minute deployment, we may be able to come up with some sort of storage that'll keep a batch stable," Zola mused, tapping her blue fingernails on the mug of her Klingon coffee. "I'll certainly see if I can come up with something."

"That would be wonderful." Rael said with a grin, "and I would love to help in anyway I can. Love this kind of stuff." Rael said finishing his coffee.

"It would certainly help to have the perspective of someone who's tried to use tech in the field. I spend most of my time in Jefferies tubes and don't often leave the ship, so I don't know what challenges are faced in the field," Zola admitted.

"Of course I can do that." Kael said with a smile taking the final sip, "well thank you lieutenant for this. Would stay longer but I better get back."

"Sure, glad to help," Zola flashed her sharp teeth at him in another grin. "I'll find you when I have something to consider for the stable storage."

Kael smiled, "sounds like a plan." With that he recycled his mug and headed out of the mess, back to his little closet — excited about this project and also knowing that Jasmine would be pleased with his initiative, or at least he hoped.
