Rael was up early luckily his new bunkmate; a petty officer science mate, "morning newly minted petty officer." Ela said with a grin on her face, "coffee?" Petty Officer Elanora 'Ela' Ribiera von Hesse was a science mate working closely with botanists and marine biologists.

"Please," Rael said still getting used to his new rank and collar color, "this is gonna get some time getting used to." He said with a chuckle as he started checking his bag making sure that he had everything.

Laughing slightly as she poured coffee into two travel mugs, "come on I'll introduce you to your new boss." Ela said herself excited to get back to work especially with what they were working on. "So, your now a ex-Marine?"

Rael looked up as he took his travel mug, "technically there's no thing as a ex-Marine, but yes I'm a retired Marine now." Slipping his bag over his shoulder he followed the younger women out of their quarters. Chatting as they finally made it to the main lab Ela walked up to the lieutenant's yeoman.

Ela just nodded as they headed off to the main lab, "is the lieutenant in?"

The yeoman nodded, "I'll let her know."

Saia's door was open, which was something she had kept in practice since she became a chief. She was looking over the same padd. The one listing all civilians that had come aboard. Jalena sighed and crossed her arms. There were no battles. There was no emergency. In those moments, Saia let her department be a bit more casual. Not unprofessional, but an atmosphere where her team could be candid about ideas. "The new guy is here."

Saia had her nose nearly pressed to the surface of the PADD, muttering about poor quality civilian equipment. "I hope they hurry and get the images upgraded."

Jalena looked at her oddly, "Why?

Saia blinked and changed the subject, "Ensign Musala, can I help you?" Her tone was a strange mix of professional courtesy and being personally annoyed. Her raised brow also reminded the Ensign she was about to cross the line.

"The new science officer is here. The retired marine." Jalena went back to her desk.

Saia followed her, "Also, no civilians in here. None. Not even if family." She didn't bother to see her yeoman's reaction before she put on a genuine grin and held out a hand to the woman first when she was within arm's length, "Welcome!"

"It's a pleasure to meet you lieutenant, and I appreciate you allowing me to join your department." Ela nodded and headed off down to the Botany Bay.

Saia smiled toward Ela as the woman walked off and turned back to the man, still holding the smile, "We're glad to have you." She nodded toward her office, "I would like to have a short chat before throwing you into work. Would you like anything to drink?"

"No ma'am I'm good," Rael said raising his travel mug that was still full of coffee as he followed his new chief into her office.

Saia smiled, "Good. Coffee is good fuel." She sits in her chair and smiles at him, "So, are there any personal experiments or projects you're working on?"

"None that were science related per se." Rael said relaxing a bit in the chair, "most of my work was keeping and making sure all Marine equipment and weapons were in order before being signed out."

Saia rose a brow, "Well, I'm sure once you get going here, you'll find some pet projects." She smiled, "I suggest you look over the archive catalog. Something might interest you there. Of course it's not mandatory, but I allow personal pet projects and experiments so that you can keep the passion for what we're doing here."

Rael smiled, "I'll get right on that and I'm sure I can come up with a couple 'pet projects'." Rael said taking a sip of his coffee, "if nothing else I would like to walk around the labs if that's alright?"

Saia nodded, "If you need help with anything, my door is always open."

"Thank you lieutenant." Rael said standing up and walking out of the office deciding to go find Ela.
