Mission: Agua Mala

“Both ships have confirmed their arrival, Your Grace. All appears to be going as the Federation stated it would… With a small exception.” The sound of a sage’s voice broke over the clang and scrape of jostling armor, effectively catching the highly sensitive ears belonging to Empress Psy’Daio Nox. At first her aging lips quivered into a smile, but that quickly cast itself aside in favor of an indomitable scowl that seemed more fitting of her stone-like face.

“A small exception?” She asked, her voice hanging elegantly on the ‘c’ in exception before rolling into the rest of the word. It could almost seem as if the noble had hissed the despicable utterance, but still managed to hold her regality through her apparent displeasure. The sage watched as his Empress’ fingers curled over the worn and sculpted emerald head of her favored walking stick, a sure sign that she was irritated if ever there was one. He nodded regardless.

“Yes. A small personal craft rendezvoused with the Vindicator, Your Grace, but all intelligence seems to show that the craft belongs to a late coming addition to their crew compliment… A Commander, Engineer.” He dutifully reprised, his eyes darting back to the coiling talons.

A scoff quickly broke from the older regent’s throat and her eyes, aquamarine in hue, rolled in their sockets as the fingers lifted from the head of the stick to waggle in a dismissive fashion, “Don’t trouble me with such idiocy, Kelt’tal, their day to day happenings are of no concern to us.” She all but chuckled as she shifted her weight in her gilded seat, “All I wanted to know was that they’ve announced themselves instead of tried to hide themselves for reconnaissance reasons.”

Kelt’tal nodded quickly, “Yes, Your Grace. They’ve sent word that they should arrive on Apsha within the next few hours, shortly before evening falls. I sugg—“

“Splendid!” The woman crowed, “See to it that they are well fed and prepared. They’ve come a long way… And see to it that the Princess is tended to. She must be tired and frightened without Pal’Maar tending to her every whim.” She pouted and crooned as if speaking to an infant. Her great robes fluttered about her as she rose to her feet and took flight from her throne and her guards, ever dutiful, followed in two neat files behind her. Kelt’tal moved quickly to both keep up and avoid being trod on as he sought to preserve his young life.

“A… As you wish, Your Grace!” He chirped in response, keeping stride as he went along, “The preparations for Xue’Daio’s birthday celebration are almost complete. Her ladyship should appreciate the gown you’ve selected for her, I find it a fascinating color choi—”

The Empress, amused by the savvy of the boy-sage as he blushed while speaking of the Princess, chuckled and waved the cur off, “Enough. Tend to the rest of your duties, Kelt’tal, you won’t win favor in this court by brown nosing. My daughter wouldn’t accept the greatest of the Makta, she will not accept you either.” She sneered before rounding a corner and disappearing through a set of widely opened heavy wood doors. The wind, effectively sucked from Kelt’tal’s sails, sent him skittering away as ordered to oversee the final details.
