It was customary, in Neyes' humble opinion to allow anyone who should want to speak to the Captain, or vice-versa, to do so in the Captain's readyroom when he/she is ready to see them. In that sense, Landon rather enjoyed his new role. The age-old part of him enjoyed being in the high-seat again, overlooking the everyday operations from a command perspective was refreshing.

Landon himself, separate from the Neyes symbiont in as much as he could be, found being the ultimate responsible party a little unnerving. The chiming feelings of success and accomplishment from his past lives was there, of course, but he could still feel the twenty-something officer who used to trip on sidewalks. In his Academy days, prior to his joining, Landon was as clutsy as they came. His foundation of confidence, wisdom and experience being a host to Neyes was more than likely all that kept him from collapsing in nervousness at the thought of command.

Yet, here was was. Captain of the starship and ringing the door of his new counselor. Larel was a very young Betazoid man, handsome, intelligent, accomplished but inexperienced. Landon wanted to get to know him a little better before they started into their next mission, and he just didn't have the time to wait for the man to come to him.

Neyes depressed the button for the bell and waited outside the counselor's door.

Cody looked up at the sound of the chime, and said "Enter please." Standing, he saw it was the captain, and went to attention. "Hello sir, what can I do for you today?"

The full salute and attention was a little more than Landon had been expecting, so he couldn't help it as he felt his brow go up in amused surprise. Coming to visit was not probably something the Counselor had been expected either, though. "Relax, Lieutenant," he laughed, moving to take a seat, "I just had a couple things to talk with you about."

Nodding, he relaxed, and taking a seat behind his desk, said "Of course sir, please take a seat. I'm sorry for the formality. I was caught a bit off guard. What can I help you with sir?"

"For starters," he began, a quick punctuation of seriousness in his voice, "I have a few concerns about some of the crew. I know you and I haven't had the chance to sit down for a formal chat, but this is going to have to take precedence for the time being."

Cody wasn't exactly sure what the captain was getting at, but he nodded and waited for him to continue.

There were very few things Landon hated more about day-to-day life than dramatics. The sniveling and complaining and political nonsense was among the things that sent him crawling the walls in irritation. Now, as Captain, he needed to realize the dramatic things on his ship were also related to productivity and duty concerns. This one in particular was not his favorite.

"Marines." He started.

"I have a problem with how they might be behaving towards those whose values they do not share." Landon paused, "and I would like to know if you have any insights." He looked to the man, trying to effect the most professional and objective take on it as he could.

Thinking for a moment about how to respond, Cody said "Can you eleaborate a bit sir? What sort of behavior have the marine's exhibited? And what values are you refering to in particular?"

"We brought a woman aboard. A Lt. Black. She was involved in the recent political matter, and given that knowledge, the Marines were tasked with assisting security to find her and bring her under custody. They managed to do this... but not before beating the hell out of her."

He paused, "She spent a few days in sickbay recovering from her injuries. Injuries she should not have been subjected to. I understand the anger or the frustration Ellis and his men may have felt, but this is a Starfleet ship... prisoners do not get beaten the hell out of to satisfy a pissed off marine."

Feeling a bit shocked at what Neyes was saying, Cody took a moment to consider his response, and said "That kind of behavior is not in line with Starfleet values. As officers serving on a Starfleet ship, they should know that sir. The only explanations I can think of for such behavior is either they do not respect the values they are sworn to protect or ..." He paused, carefully deciding how to phrase his next words, then added "Or they don't respect you sir, and feel they are subject to their own rules and regulations."

Neyes couldn't help but smile a little, "Couldn't have said it better myself, Lieutenant. I'm going to want you to bring the Marine Captain, Ellis King, in for a meeting. I won't be there, but I'd like you to try to get to the bottom of this issue. If he's unable to listen to direction, orders or otherwise, I'm concerned about a number of prospects... We are on a mission into Cardasssian space, a touchy subject, and we have a Cardassian senior officer," he paused, "If you feel the need to speak to all of them prior to this mission please do so. Couldn't hurt to figure out why King's men beat the shit out of some well to-do undercover operative, and it'd be nice to find out Almar's stance on where he fits in with the crew."

Taking care of the emotional infrastructure of the ship wasn't something Landon was particularly keen on doing himself. Thankfully, with the help of a counselor, he wouldn't need to. "Think you can pull that off? Anything you need from me?"

Nodding, he replied "I think I'll be ok sir. I will do my best to provide ... encouragement around proper behavior sir. I guess the only thing I would need from you is backup in case any ... corrective action needs to be taken."

Neyes nodded, "Very well. If you'll excuse me, Lieutenant."
