Mission: In the Dark

=/\= Vindicator Camp =/\=

About an hour had passed since the mysterious and gigantic creature had breached the perimeter of the Vindicator's camp. The crew was still on edge, as was Caldwell. He went into one of the tents and tried to sleep, using the Federation standard sleeping bag. The tent provided optimal thermal insulation from the cold outside.

The away mission had not been going as well as he had planned. His assistant security officer was now injured with a sprained ankle. The medic wanted to keep her off of it and Caldwell managed to borrow a portal bioregenerative field unit to use when not needed for other casualties.

The marines were providing cover for the position and Matt felt a certain sense of security at that. He was looking forward to the arrival of the delegation, so they could start the negociations. After all, the sooner they started, the sooner it would be finished and everyone could return to the Vindicator.

Caldwell quickly drifted off to the sleep and slept for a few hours.

His sleep was interrupted by a whisper: "Sir?"

"Yes?" Matt replied.

"Sergeant Howel, sir. The lieutenant was wondering if you would like to take one of the perimeter watches."

"Of course!" Matt replied, as he quickly stood up and gathered his Federation winter gear. "I'll be there in 5 minutes."

"Understood, sir." The marine quickly closed the tent and Caldwell finished applying the rest of the gear. It would be interesting to see the perimeter.
