Rael was in the armory looking at the proposed draft of his resignation letter with the Marines, but it had an amendment that he would re-enlist as a naval NCO. The Marines were his first family, they showed him how to be a better man and that he was strong enough to deal with anything that the universe threw at him.

After making a few minor changes, he stood and walked out of the armory, taking in the barracks as he walked to Jasmine's office. There was a reason he wasn't a infantrymen; his true nature, like most Daliwakan's, was peaceful, calm, and loving. Even with him getting his naval NCO credentials first Rael still felt a pull to do something bigger then himself.

Taking a deep breath, Rael hit the chime hoping Jasmine wasn't busy. "Enter," Jasmine called out, looking up from her monitor to see who it was, "ah sergeant, please come in and take a seat."

"For this, ma'am, I'd prefer to stand," Rael said walking in and setting a PaDD on her desk, "As you're aware, my term of service has come to an end and I would like to resign my commission."

Jasmine picked up the PaDD and looked it over, "I am aware of this. Usually this is where I try and convince you to re-enlist, but I remember you saying you wanted to get back to the sciences."

"This is still true ma'am," Rael said standing at attention, unsure what else to say, so he remained at attention.

Jasmine nodded, looking at the young sergeant. "You'll be sorely missed sergeant, but it sounds like I can't say or do anything to convince you to stay," Jasmine said giving him a smile, "you've served this unit well, but before I sign off I want to make sure your amendment well be honored." With that she sent a memo to both Captain Ivanova and Commander Waterhouse to see if they could meet in the captain's ready room.

The afternoon came about, heavy and long with the promise of Marine interaction marring the roster. She'd accepted the request for a meeting under the proviso that it was imperative that she and Amelia both were there. Up until that moment, however, the Marines had been secretive - keeping their plans and needs under lock and key, reserving them for the meeting.

The chime rang right on time and Rochelle looked to Amelia as she called, "Enter."

Jasmine and Rael entered the ready room. "Captain," Jasmine said, saluting and standing at a attention. Rael followed suit. "Sergeant Rayya's enlistment has finished up, and he would like to resign his Marine billet, but than re-enlist using his naval NCO billet he has," Jasmine said handing over his resignation letter and then his re-upping amendment.

Amelia eyed the young marine — soon to be ex-marine — and wondered what department he was hoping to be involved with. She'd caught wind of his discussion with Zola about the tiny Ferengi's Little Big sound probes, and how he'd hoped to press them into service for the marines. She couldn't help wondering what was to happen to that idea.

"What department are you looking to join?" Amelia asked.

"I got my enlisted credentials in science at 18, ma'am. I've also been taking regular courses to keep my credentials updated," Rael said producing another PaDD and handing it to the commander, which showed his credentials and which courses he has taken to stay up-to-date.

"Thank you," she murmured politely as she accepted the PADD. She let her eyes skim the data as she bit her lip to hide a frown. The last marine turned scientist she'd known hadn't left a good impression when he'd walked suddenly out of her life. She could only hope this one was more reliable than Terry had been. She smiled politely.

Jasmine looked between the captain and commander. "Sergeant Rayya is very very dedicated Marine. I'm sure he'll take that same dedication and bring it to the science department."

Rochelle held out her hand for the PADD that Amelia held as she studied the Marines in front of her. It wasn't a secret that she didn't trust or enjoy their presence on her ship, she'd never seen a point for them being on exploration vessels. And yet, here they were. "Science you say?" She nodded, almost appreciative. Almost surprised. "I don't see a reason not to accept you on as a science officer, Sergeant, but just realize that this ship isn't run like the corps."

Amelia took one more quick skim of the PADD before handing it over to Rochelle. "May I ask why you're looking to make this change?" Her head tilted every so slightly as she waited for his answer.

Rael took a moment to consider how to phrase this correctly, "I love being a Marine ma'am, but I feel I need to make things right," he said, pausing knowing that he had to explain what he meant. "I fixed things that were causing death, I would like to have my hands trying to create something for life."

The Captain nodded as she listened to him and scanned through the PADD that was handed to her. "I can understand that need." She replied, setting the PADD down and looking back up the Marines. "If this is what you want to do with your career, I'll allow it."

"Thank you ma'am," Rael said with a polite nod. Jasmine nodded and smiled to the two command officers.

"My pleasure." She nodded to him, tugging out another PADD and working on it. "You'll be assigned new quarters and given new clearances."

"Of course," Rael said looking between the captain and commander, "and it's been a pleasure serving as a Marine on this beautiful ship and I'm sure I'll continue to enjoy my service here as a science mate."

Amelia smiled politely, the young man seemed genuine enough and she hoped his enthusiasm lead to him fitting in well in the science department. She'd heard it was pretty close knit — but then so are the marines, so hopefully that would be a familiar feeling. "Best of luck with the transition. With any luck, you'll fit in quickly."

"I have no doubt of it." Rochelle smiled and found her feet, offering her hand to the new officer in a display of genuine welcome. "If there's nothing further, you're dismissed."

Taking the women's hand Rael returned a strong firm handshake. With that the two Marines headed out of the office and back to the barracks.
