Mission: Are You Touched?

When they made the deal, they didn't warn him that the little bitch would be anything other than an easy mark. They'd warned him of the taller one, and he'd had his son out making a fool of himself to tempt her into a fight she couldn't handle, especially when a couple of his numbskull friends joined in to overpower her. They didn't warn him that the little bitch could and would fight back just as spirited as her taller companion.

Ch'Gret rubbed at the edges of his beard, his skin still tender from where she'd yanked the hair out while dragging him around on the bar top. It didn't physically hurt as much as the beating he'd received after, but it served as a marked reminder of her contribution. The other injuries, they came from someone who was higher than him, but she was so small, so human. His ego couldn't bear it.

Inwa sighed heavily, his little pointed teeth gritting together as he sat and shook his head. Everything about the entire situation stank and the only person he had to blame for it was himself. He'd forgotten the hundred and ninty-fourth rule of acquisition and hadn't vetted their marks well. But a contract was a contract and Mikkal wasn't getting his money back. "You mind telling me again how you had your ass handed to you by a woman that's knee high to a sewing thimble?

"I failed, you toady little shit, because you didn't warn me she was Starfleet," Ch'Gret growled at the Ferengi, catching him by the throat and lifting him off his feet. "Unlike your pathetic race, humans actually train their people to be warriors, even the small ones."

Inwa's feet flailed as he was lifted from them by the Klingon. "You should have known!" He gasped, slapping at Ch'Gret's hands, "She came down with the rest of them like Mikkal said!"

"A conversation I wasn't present for," he snapped, and suddenly let go of the Ferengi, letting him fall to the floor. There was no use killing the pathetic thing, not yet. He may still have a use.

Falling to his rear end, Inwa rubbed his throat. "Do that again and I'll see to it you aren't paid." He huffed indignantly, "We need to send word to Mikkal that he's shit out of luck. If he wants the little bitch dead, he'll have to do it himself." The Ferengi grunted as he slowly got to his knees and then to his feet. "One of us getting killed isn't worth the damned bounty or his stupid promises. Ch'Krang and his men weren't easy to placate."

"Of course they weren't, they're in bed with the Starfleet." Ch'Gret stomped across the room they were in, knocking the Ferengi's PADD off the table.

"If your family didn't collectively share the brain of a single Cardassian vole then maybe you'd be where he is and we'd be collecting on a bounty right now instead of trying to contact one Atlantean half-wit to tell him he's shit out of luck." Inwa muttered angrily as the PADD hit the floor. He stooped to pick it up, turning it on to be sure there wasn't any damage. It flashed to life immediately, prompting him for a security code to begin its attempt to connect to Mikkal. "You ready for this or do I need to find you a sedative?"

"Just get him on the comm so we can get this taken care of," the Klingon snapped back.

The Ferengi muttered something about Klingon intelligence once again and quickly made the connection to to the Atlantean. "Mikkal." He greeted the bronze skinned man on the other end, his customary cupped bow markedly excluded from the pleasantries.

Mikkal was expecting the transmission for a while now. Initially, the deadline agreed had been passed, but extended, citing better organization of the hit. He agreed, while being quite annoyed by the lack of punctuality of the Klingon, a flaw that specifically was repulsive to Atlanteans. He look at the Ferengi's face on the screen, keeping a very sinister look. "I hope you are not asking for another extension," he stated, coldly.

"Actually," Inwa started, looking up at Ch'Gret as if for back up, "The little one just about plucked my esteemed colleague's facial hair out like he was a chicken." He said, his sharp little teeth gritting together in between words. Irritated didn't even begin to cover it. "The resort is losing profit because of the ordeal. You didn't mention she seems to have an alliance with the chancellor's house."

Mikkal remained silent for a few long seconds. He looked at the screen, a cold look on his face, almost immobile. "And?" he asked, coldly, irritated.

"And you can get that aloof bronze ass down here and collect them yourself," Ch'Gret insisted, leaning over Inwa's shoulder and snarling into the screen. "The little bitch should have been easily split, but she attacks like a targ. And the other one?" He shook his head.

"Or perhaps I can send another of my business partners down there and collect my due... and your head?" Mikkal stated, a slight grin appearing on the corner of his mouth. "I have a hard time to believe that such a large Klingon, like you, can be such a coward," he added, adding fuel to the fire.

Ch'Gret's fist slammed the table, and he snatched the PADD out of Inwa's hand. "Now you listen here you bronze skinned waste of flesh," he snarled holding the PADD close to his face as if he were getting into the Atlantean's face, "You can come down here and try and collect my head yourself. And when you fail, I'll drop your head at the foot of that tiny little bitch to tell her who asked for her head."

"I'm with him." Inwa chirped with a nod and set jaw, "We're not in the position to have the high council turn on us and our businesses. The Ferengi are in a bad position on this planet as it is! You set us up!"

"Of course he set us up," Ch'Gret growled at the Ferengi. "His kind are too good to dirty their hands, they just think they can buy the impossible and walk away clean." He flung the PADD at Inwa again, as if abusing the Ferengi's PADD could dismiss and harm the Atlantean.

Mikkal began to laugh, clapping his hands. He appeared quite entertain. "Ferengis are known are hard negotiator. We are known as ruthless business partners. You get us what we pay you for, or we get more than we asked for," he stated. "Now, to solve our little... issue," he added, waving his hand to indicate they should move on. "I will give two options. Either you accomplish the task or you don't. If you don't, I expect a full refund, plus an incompetence fee of 150% added to the initial amount," he stated. "You have 24 hours, or this little arrangement... is disclosed to some common friends," he added, obviously meaning the council or, worse, the families.

The little Ferengi chuckled and shook his head. "You broke contract through non-disclosure of key elements." He grinned, "The way I see it, you tried to have us killed through a bad business deal and owe us money for damages."

Mikkal grinned. "Oh, okay. How about this..." he said, while tapping on another padd. "Now, I have bundled our previous conversations, along with the video footage of the events of the bar, encrypted it and about to send it. Now, either you pay, or you don't. Poorer or dead. Which one would you prefer?" he asked, hovering his finger on top of the padd.

"Dead? I still have your signature. How about I forward that up to the little red devil you hate so much? Then we'll see who's dead." Inwa's sharp smile only broadened.

Mikkal remained cold, looking at the screen, thinking. "We seem to be in an impasse," he stated, after a few seconds of reflection.

"Indeed." The shrewd little creature's tongue ran over the pointed edges of his teeth. "I suggest you find another way to solve your problems. Violence obviously isn't the answer."

"Then, give me a copy of their access codes at your establishments and full access to your transporters," he stated, coldly. "And you shall turn a blind eye on anything," he added, feeling he was bridging the gap between them.

"No dice, pal. We're done here and not putting Qapla' or it's profits in any further risk. Off you go." Inwa snorted and shook his head.

"If it means I don't have to hear any more of your bickering," Ch'Gret snapped, shoving his way on screen again. "take back my share of what you paid us and do your own work jay'."

Inwa waved his hands frantically, "No! He will not take back anything. You lost your facial hair and your honor. So no. We will be keeping all of the latinum you transferred. Good day."

"Alright," claimed Mikkal, pressing the PADD. "Good luck to you... coward," he stated, waving good bye.

The Ferengi hissed as the screen went dark.
