Mission: Agua Mala

Long awaited had been the call from Ops announcing the arrival of the USS Bandit (NCC-93081) and her charge, Commander Fuller. Spat from the tempestuous badlands, the Commander came as a promise of stability in an otherwise turbulent universe -- and would bring about a chance for Almar to rest easy knowing his beloved ship was being cared for and tended to by the best... At least what Archer had recommended as being the best. Even still, orders were to have security greet the man in the shuttle bay and have him sent straight to her ready room for the usual new crew on-boarding procedure song and dance. Of course, there were still questions that needed to be asked and answered, and Rochelle was ever the picture of a concerned, though welcoming, commanding officer.

"Approaching the edge of the region referred as the Badlands." The ship reported

"Acknowledged, Bandit." Chatham took his seat at the helm position and took control of the craft. "USS Vindicator, this is USS Bandit requesting permission & instructions to land?" Fuller was partially anxious after being away from Star Fleet for about six years. He'd been keeping up on Engineering & other Star Fleet stuff, but the news of the Civil War was very surprising. I guess that what I get for staying on the reservation. At least there he'd not had an episode of his Chrono-phase disorder. "Bandit, grant Commodore Ivanova & obviously the current appropriate medical staff access to classified portions of my medical record." Fuller had another thought to keep suspicion down. "Also grant them appropriate access as Commanding Officer and Medical Officer to information in the primary database as to my condition. Since it's not accurately cataloged yet in this universe or time."

Bandit chirped in response.

"O.K. here we go again." Chase said as he awaited the response of the USS Vindicator flight control.

"Bandit, this is Vindicator." A young Andorian Ensign responded to the hail and looked up to catch the expectant blue eyes of their Commanding Officer boring back into their skull, "Follow coordinates being relayed to you. You're cleared to land in Shuttle Bay One." The Ensign's voice faded as the info packet was transferred across to the main computer of the Bandit. Rochelle nodded appreciatively, and as the spirited redheaded Commodore turned away, the Andorian nearly melted into her seat with relief. First day on the job, and already being cornered with the important stuff. She'd honestly hoped the day would just be filled with the idle banter of traffic entering and exiting Stenellis space.

"Vindicator this is Bandit. Roger copy Shuttle Bay 1. Making approach & following standard landing procedures." Fuller could have let Bandit land, but decided to go with standard procedures. "Bandit upon my departure you are to shut down & only reinitialize for me or the CO. We don't want anyone snooping in your database. Speaking of which to ensure there won't be any problems isolate that portion of memory & initiate level 10 micro force field bubble in the shuttle. Just to keep the honest people honest." Bandit chirped in response.

A short while later, with the Bandit snug and secure beside the Liberty and Horizon, two security officers stood waiting to greet the newest member of the Vindicator's crew. With so much riding on their diplomatic mission, and the memories of the war and their own skirmish with the Romulans and Atlanteans still burning fresh in their psyches, they knew the Commodore's orders made more than just a little sense. "Commander Fuller," One greeted with a smile, "Welcome aboard the USS Vindicator. Commodore Ivanova has sent us down to tend to you personally and to escort you to her ready room for immediate briefing." They added, almost sheepishly. While it wasn't as if they were taking the Engineer into custody, it could certainly be construed that they'd been sent to baby sit him on his way up to meet the Phoenix.

"Very well, security, escort on." Fuller only knew bits and pieces of this Civil War, but thought it must have influenced this heightened state of security. As a department head and a very senior officer in Star Fleet, he was sure he would be briefed & read into the appropriate programs. As he was escorted his engineering eyes caught details that would need attention.

The trip from the main shuttle bay up to the bridge was always a small feat. Vindicator was the largest ship of the fleet, the only one of her kind, and as such it took a bit more effort to trek about her more remote locations. Once there, however, the 'brain' of the boat was nothing short of impressive. Massive view screens looked along the front end and currently worked to display the stars and the axis of the blue-green world of Apsha as they orbited its equator. Both Security officers had become more like tour guides than enforcers, pointing out different displays and areas of the vessel as they'd cut through or walked past until they reached the ready room door. "This is where we leave you, Commander." The tall one said, gesturing to the door and chime, "Good luck."

Chase took in the sights and sounds of the ship. It took a minute or two to get the feeling back again. When he did he felt a vibration that needed his attention.
"Thanks, but I'm an engineer, luck has nothing to do with it." Fuller responded with a smile.
Seeing the Commodore, Fuller sounded off properly to show respect & observe protocol. "Commander Chatham Wayne Fuller, Engineer, reporting aboard for duty as Chief Engineering Officer, Ma'am." With that he stood by with the P.A.D.D. he was issued upon passing Admin.

"At ease, Commander." The diminutive Commodore replied with a gentle wave of her hand in gesture towards one of the chairs in front of her desk and cast a knowing glance at the broad-built Cardassian leaning against the bulkhead to her right. "Can I offer you gentlemen a beverage? Raktajino? Tea?" She asked, making her way to the replicator. Formalities were a pain in the ass, but this was a special case needing special attention -- she could almost feel Almar's scrutiny radiating from him and pouring over the Commander in undulating waves. Vindicator was his lovechild -- great, big, hulking mass of a lovechild, but a lovechild none-the-less -- parting from caring for her in the most intimate of manners would be a hard switch for the big Cardassian, but Rochelle knew it was for the best. At least for a little while.

"Nothing for me, thank you sir." Almar replied as he propped up one of the walls with his bulk, his gold uniform having been traded for a one decked in red only served to make his gaze appear more menacing, his obsidian eyes looked the newcomer over in minute detail, regarding every little nuance of him in a vain effort to determine his worth.

Fuller stood next to the chair, "If I may Commodore, a Green Tea, Star Fleet medical recipe CF-3081, please." Chatham looked at the Cardassian and offered his hand. "I'm Chatham Fuller, Commander Engineering Corp. Just so you know I was trained by the engineering legend, Lance R. Violator and learned very well in my engineering courses. I don't know if you've received the beginning of my review of the ship, but I have submitted one?"

Rochelle couldn't help but stifle a small chuckle as she watched the men posture from the corner of her eye, "Not that we've seen as of yet, Commander, but that's not all that surprising given the fact transmissions have been tweaked by the badlands." She replied as she gathered up the two mugs of steaming hot beverages. "Your tea." The redhead added as the ceramic protested with a muffled clink as she set it against top of her highly polished desk.

"I'm intrigued to hear what you have to say about the Big V, Commander, as I'm sure Commander Dahe'el is. Before I chose him as the most recent incarnation of the ship's XO, he was our Chief Engineering Officer and oversaw the entire build of the Discovery project." She smiled as she sidled back into her chair, wrapping her fingers around the heat of her mug. Taking a sip became the perfect cover for her budding amusement.

"I will resend the report to ensure delivery." Fuller graciously accepted the tea and sat down after the Commodore. "But to hit the high points the ship in general is sound. I will have to review the build, engineering, performance, & maintenance logs before I can give a comprehensive report. This incarnation of Vindicator is the biggest yet. She also has big 'Nacelles' to fill considering the heritage. Sturdy build, mission adaptable, forward thinking design. But like any idea, concept, or build, getting it to together & keeping it together can be two entirely different things. Even repairing battle damage needs to be done right or you pay the bill for damage twice. 'Fix it right the first time, your life may depend on it." Fuller took a sip of his tea as he observed reactions carefully.

A slender copper eyebrow slowly rose by minimal fractions as its owner listened to what the Commander had to say. Part of her expected Almar to bristle and roar to the defense of the ship he'd so tenderly breathed life into, and the other part wondered if maybe Fuller was simply trying to do his job and impress the lot of them. Either way, having the new Engineer aboard was going to be, in a word, interesting. "She's the biggest ship in service at the moment, and nothing bigger is planned." Rochelle finally replied, setting her cup down, "I look forward to reading your report." The brilliant blue of her eyes flashed up towards Almar, glittering in some form of good humor best left void of description.

"Your statements are correct, Commander Fuller," Almar replied as he crossed his arms across his chest, "However, the ship is as sound as she will ever be, I can provide you with all the information you will need on her proper upkeep and maintenance, including the necessary knowledge when dealing with the warp core configuration, only two ships exist with this layout and no one outside of those two crews has been authorized to train in it's usage."

"I look forward to those reports & the training." Chatham smiled at the Cardassian through clenched teeth. Hoping to never have to work with the spoon head ever again. He had enough to deal with learning the systems, without have to meditate his anger away. If he did have to work with a "Spoon Head" he'd just have to stick tot he facts & that which would efficiently get the job done safely.

The tension in the reply was clearly evident to the Cardassian who'd been dealing with it his whole life and he had come to expect it. "If there's nothing else, Commodore, I should go and prepare a simulation for the Commander before he's put on to the duty roster."

"Of course, Commander Dahe'el, you're dismissed." Rochelle quickly nodded. "But before you take your leave, Commander Fuller, may I have a word in private?" She asked, passing the Cardassian a knowing look as she waited for the man to depart the ready room.

"Of course, Commodore, I am at your service. What can I help with?" Fuller answered.

The woman offered a small smile of gratitude at his response and the sound of her ready room door hissing shut behind Almar as he left. "I understand that Engineers have a sense of territory and bravado that I'll likely never fully grasp." She began, folding her fingers back around the heat of her raktajino, "and I understand that some may never be able to forgive the Cardassian Union for what they did during the Dominion Wars..." Rochelle's head tilted ever so slightly as she spoke with a gentle shrug, "but I want to assure you that Commander Dahe'el is one of the finest officers ever to serve Starfleet, and one of the greatest engineering minds to ever have been placed in this universe. Like Captain Violator, he has a vast amount of knowledge to share for those willing to listen. Food for thought."

"Well, I've endeavored to put aside the like dislike filter & learn from people I otherwise couldn't stand. If for no other reason that to have more knowledge to pass on."

"Perfect. This is one of those times to set that filter aside." She nodded as if to emphasize her point and moved to retrieve and slide a PADD across to the Engineer, "Your quarters and everything you need to know about life on the Vindicator can be found within. If you should find yourself in need of something as you settle in, Commander Dahe'el, Commander Archer, or myself will be happy to assist."

"Roger that Ma'am." With that Fuller stood up, took a side step back. "By your leave, Commodore?"

"You're dismissed."

Fuller did a proper about face & left the room. In the passageway he took a deep breath & said, "Well, let's try this Star Fleet thing out again, shall we." and headed to his Stateroom.
