Mission: Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Shortly following the away team's mission to rescue Lt Roswell

Rob had completely readied himself for the call to the Captain's Ready Room. With their mission to the colony's surface completed and the loose ends, some of which included a dead Romulan body, Rob had prepared a detailed report about their short venture to locate and rescue Lieutenant Roswell. He'd been through enough rodeos to know when he was going to get reamed. Dar surely wouldn't be happy with him.

Dar was still pondering the ramifications of the information the Romulan Commander had provided him when the chime came.

"Enter."

"Commander, have a seat. I assume that is your report." he nodded to the padd in hand, "Why don't you just summarize for me."

Rob looked to his padd before taking a deep breath, "We arrived on the planet as scheduled and rendezvoused with the Romulan First Officer per our orders. Upon her scans we entered a nearby cave where, unknown to myself or Captain King, the Romulan Commander attacked Lieutenant Roswell's Romulan captor. After taking the Romulan into custody we left the cave for evac before the Romulan ship managed to transport her and the dead Romulan's body off the planet."

It was a mouthful, but it was the truth.

"I take full responsibility for the lapse of communication and failure to secure Lieutenant Roswell without incident, sir." Rob said straight-faced, feet locked together in dutiful position.

"But you did recover Lt Roswell. Alive. Correct?" Dar inquired.

Rob's expression betrayed his confusion. "Yes, sir, yes she's alive. A bit bruised, but alive."

The Captain nodded, "Then relax before you sprain something. Sit." he said motioned to a chair as he went to get them each a drink.

Dar's mood did not indicate an angry man, in fact, the Captain seemed relatively at ease. A tremendous task considering their recent debacle with the Romulans. "If you don't mind me asking, sir," Rob took the seat in front of the Trill CO's desk, "did something happen while we were away?"

Dar put Lansine's usual in front of him and sat down, "Yes. I had an interesting conversation with the Romulan Commander while you were away. I would tell you more, but I'm afraid that the details should remain secret for now."

He paused to take a sip of his own drink, "Suffice to say our course will be changing as soon as we are sure the Kennedy is well enough to make the trip back without escort."

Lansine nodded, albeit without fully understanding the reason behind Dar's call to the Romulan, "Commander Isenhart assures us the Kennedy will be able to disembark by the end of the day. Their engineers have reconnected their defense systems to their main EPS lines and Captain Heifner is recovering in their Sickbay."

Dar sighed audibly, "Yes, Captain Heifner." he leaned on his desk, "Who opened fire on another Federation ship. All just to get you. Any idea why you are suddenly so important to Starfleet Security?"

Rob took a deep drink from the cup in front of him. The swift cut of whiskey against his tongue was a welcome change from discerning the allegiances inside a Romulan civil war. "Honestly, I don't have a clue." He really didn't. The call for his arrest had caught him completely by surprise. When Heifner had first contact them he hardly had had time to contemplate the seriousness of the accusation. Now, with the dust settled, it did strike him as a bit odd.

"Something serious enough to fire on a friendly vessel, apparently," Rob smirked, taking another drink.

"Perhaps." Olan said just as he swallowed his own drink, "Though I'm inclined to think she was a little frustrated by your noncompliance. Firing on the Vindicator is not something I am willing to let go ignored. No matter the circumstances."

Rob smiled slightly. While he wished the woman a speedy recovery he couldn't help but enjoy the image of her before a Starfleet Internal Investigations hearing at SFJAG. "I think she'll have a lot on her plate once this report is filed."

"Indeed. Unfortunately the order for your return still stands so we'll have to bring you there ourselves." Olan said.

"Well if you are to be away from the ship for some time we will need an acting first officer. Any suggestions?"

Rob knew the answer to the question before it was asked. The problem had come across his mind when the possibility of having to leave the Vindicator had first began to sink in after dealing with the Romulans. "I believe I'd agree with procedure on this one. I'd tap Landon for the job." Granted, Rob had much more than just procedure to fall back on. The Second Officer position granted Neyes a shot at the Executive job, but Rob wanted his friend to have a chance at the chair regardless. He'd proved his worth more than enough times to convince him of that.

Olan nodded, "Very well. Assuming you are gone for some time we'll make the change."

"I don't imagine it lasting long," Rob said as he finished his glass off. "I haven't a clue what or why they'd spend the resources to come all this way for me."

Olan nodded, "It doesn't make a lot of sense with a war on and everything else."

"Anyway I think that is everything for the moment. I'm going over to the Kennedy to speak with Captain Heifner about this situation. Once I am done there and they are on their way we will head back to Earth."

Rob nodded and stood up, "Aye, sir. I'll alert the crew and have the ship primed to leave at your request."
