| Personal History | Born to Adona Karak, an officer in the Cardassian 8th Order that was assigned to the disputed territory around the DMZ, where she was frequently in contact with Federation colonists as part of her regular duties. Though she fought the Federation when the Union declared war, it was out of duty to Cardassia than it was hatred for alien governments. During the spans of peace, she encountered a roguish human freighter captain, Jason Finnely, and their personalities conflicted in just the right way that became romantic banter. One such liaison led to Miles being born. Miles knew of his father and human parentage, but was raised primarily by his mother, though he only visited Cardassia with her a handful of times, his mixed heritage being a sign ridicule and scorn for most Cardassians. It wasn't until Adona's untimely death in the line of duty when Miles was 12 that he went to live with his father aboard his freighter. There, he found less a parent and more an adventuring mentor in Jason Finnely, but Miles appreciated all that his father deigned to teach him. When he came of age, he started seeking avenues to strike his own path, not being content to be tied to Finnely's aging freighter for the rest of his life. Through his father he carried Federation citizenship, and took a shot in the dark to apply for Starfleet's enlisted corps. |
