Mission:
Secret Meetings
Location: Pilots Briefing Room
=*= Pilots Briefing Room, USS Vindicator =*=
Elar decided to hold a meeting for his pilots he actually had a lot of new ones while some of his more experience ones were transferred to larger fighter elements within the fleet and mostly up on the front lines which made sense but it left him with a hole filled with green rookies right out of flight school. Which means most of them were hotheaded, egotistical and untested which was a dangerous combination.
Lynda made her way into the briefing room having heard about it on her way to check on her bird she moved to find a seat reaching to replicate a drink before she sat down of course though.
As the pilots started to filter in most of them chatting with each other. It has been a couple of months since the green pilots arrived it seemed the Vindicator was a training ground for the new pilots before they were transferred off and sent to fighter elements along the front lines. "Alright, alright quite down." Elar said gruffly.
"From here on out I am your god meaning you answer to me and me alone." He said looking over the young group of pilots which most of them haven't actually been in a combat situation outside of simulated one. "I know you're all excited get into the fight but let me tell you all those simulations you did in training hasn't prepared you for the real thing." Elar allowed this to set in knowing that a lot of the hotheads would scoff and roll their eyes but Elar would make sure they knew what he meant.
Lynda smiled over at Elar as he addressed the newbies. She knew exactly what she was getting into, but then she wasn't a green pilot. she's been flying for a good while and though she didn't know everything about being a pilot, she trust her squad and she trust her captain whom was addressing the group now...
"I also have several let's call them demigods under me and a goddess. The goddess would be Marine Captain Tripae Lione she's our chief combat information officer she's the one that provides us with mission details prior to launching for a hop or during the hop (A Mission, or flight). So I suggest to you all when she speaks you listen well cause what she says well most likely save your asses."
Lynda leaned back listening making sure to take note of each and every officer that he'll mention. She looked towards Marine Captain Tripae so she'd know exactly who that was.
"Now my demigods are my and your support crew starting with Marine Captain Carter Scofield whose your plane captain if you need anything or if you've any complaints he's the man to speak with. Next is Junior Lieutenant T'Pau your chief flight control officer she's the one that'll clear you for take off and landings. And finally Staff Sergeant Ai Castillon is our deck chief she's the one along with her ground crew that's gonna keep our birds flying so my suggestion is don't piss her or any of her staff off." Elar said looking around the group.
Keen eyes filtered over each officer as they were mentioned and their positions really so she knew the chain of command or he wouldn't have mentioned them in the order he did.
"Alright I'm gonna be handing the podium over to Captain Lione whose gonna over the intel we've on the Tholian ships seeing as we're gonna be seeing more Tholian ship action than Romulan and or Cardassian." Elar said looking around the briefing room.
A tall and beautiful Ba'Ku women stood up and walked to the podium, "afternoon pilots. I'm gonna keep this short and sweet mainly because we're still gathering intel on the Tholian ships as we speak. But like the Tholains themselves their ship hulls are basically that hard crystalline material. They do have shields but even when you've depleted their shields you've that crystalline hull to get through and so far all we've come up with is just to pummel the crap out of it."
Lynda frowned slightly thinking about crystal and how a high pitch frequency could cause it to crack and break. "I have a thought." Red Queen said finally adding her voice to the mix. "Crystal is vulnerable against a high frequency that causes it to vibrate until it shatters. I remember reading something about a crystalline entity that was destroyed by such a frequency when it faced Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the USS Enterprise."
"Yes lieutenant it is but it's been close to 40+ years since that engagement and in all honesty this is the first full engagement we've had with Tholians since that time. So they've adapted their crystalline hulls now those high frequencies effect communications and sometimes it just drives them away." Tripae said looking around the pilots seeing if they had any ideas.
"if we modulate the frequency rotate it between the higher ones that might compensate for their ability to adapt their hulls." Lynda said not really giving up on that idea. She continued thinking about what she'd read on Tholian's. "Tholian biology required high temperatures around 480 Kelvin (207 °C, 404 °F). If we could find away to cool down their ships from the outside they start to crack and break apart. I'm not saying we can hold it until they die or anything but it might make them back off long enough for us to regroup."
"That would work and trust me when I say this lieutenant Star Fleet RnD (research and development) have been working on this. But with space being a vacuum and cold the Tholians have pretty much perfected their hulls to deal with extreme cold and vacuum. At this point it's pretty much hit them with everything you've got and continue to pound them until they're destroyed which means we need to rely on our dogfighting training." Tripae said looking around the group knowing that was the last thing they wanted to hear.
"Is there any way we could use their webs against them?" Lynda asked not at all happy that she couldn't out think RnD departments...
"Not exactly the only advantage we've got against the web is that it takes a lot of ships and all the ships have to be doing it at the same time for it to work along with a lot of time as well." Tripae said looking over to Elar.
"Alright......for right now we're gonna end the meeting. I'll be posting a a schedule for training.....oh and lieutenant Howard remain behind for a little bit?" Elar said nodding for everyone else to be excused.
Lynda blinked to find herself being asked to stay behind, but remained in her seat while she waited wondering if she was in trouble. she hadn't gotten drunk in the last week so it couldn't be that...
"Alright lieutenant you're the most senior pilot besides me which means you're the front runner for the squadron xo position......but to b truthful I'm hesitant to hand that out mainly cause I don't know you and I need someone I know in that position.......so my question is how willing are you to prove to me that you're the person for the xo position?" Elar said signing off on a PaDD and handing it back to MCapt Scofield.
Lynda blinked her jaw dropping that was the last thing she had expected. Was she willing? to give up her carefree existence to buckle down and act more like an adult and less like a rebellious, hormonal teenager? crap! "by the time I'm done, you'll know I'm the right girl for the jobs." Lynda said with a charming smile. oh she could do it, lead and be squad XO even if it was a huge surprise. "how do we start?"
"I want to see what you're made of, how you deal with the pilots meaning you started this interview the first time you set foot on this ship. I'm gonna be watching your every move very closely so......I suggest you start thinking what it means to be squadron xo." Elar said.
Lynda bit her lower lip to keep her jaw from falling wondering if sleeping with that pilot her first night here was going to hurt her? it kinda just happened they met had a few drinks and then she was sneaking out of his quarters... Oi...
