Mission:
Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: Romulan Colony
With the intruductions and awkward silences hopefully out of the way, Sov'aal nodded toward the colony. "Commander, if you and any engineering personnel wish to follow me, there may be another service you and your team may be able to help with as Well." With an heir that he was sure would come off to the Federations as arrogance rather than simply being sure of his needs, the Governor turned and led the small group away from the doctor and the remaining medical and science personnel.
Jenny stood with the group waiting to see what or where they were heading next. she resisted the urge to yawn at the governor whom was trying for arrogance...
Rob, still a bit confounded considering the entirety of their newfound allegiance with the Romulan cohort. Yet, without any sort of proof their hosts were up to some sort of sinister plot he little choice but follow the Romulan. "What might we do?"
"As we have said before, our colony is lacking in several key areas. Much of our building materials we gain by way of a local mine near the colony. We have had to resort to running the mining equipment almost 24 hours a day to produce the materials needed. I would not normally seek to impose on your generosity, however it is at least possible that the cause of this illness may be something in the mine. Our scientists did find several unidentified compounds in the mine during its assessment, however our filtration equipment quit more than a month ago."
Lansine pondered a moment the realities of what the Romulan was most likely asking. "Our industrial replicators are quite capable of producing many of the supplies you'll need." The words seemed to stumble out of his mouth; he wasn't entirely comfortable just throwing resources at these people, but he had his orders.
Almar nodded in agreement, "I believe we can make the necessary repairs and modifications to your filtration systems, just point us in the right direction,"
"As for these 'unidentified compounds'," Rob looked at the Romulan scientists flanking Sov'aal. "I mean this as no offense to you, but our scanning equipment is superior to yours. Perhaps one of our science teams could investigate the mine."
"As much as it pains me to admit Commander, I would have to agree with your assessment of the state of our scanning equipment. I will inform the mine foreman to expect your officers."
"With your permission, I would like to bring a full engineering detail down to begin work on the repairs," the Cardassian replied as he turned to both the Romulan and his Executive Officer, "Once we've assessed the task, I can give you an estimated time for completion."
Jenny looked to her Cardassian chief of engineer. she kinda missed her Vedalaian Chief but she was happy that Akida was doing something that made her happy...
Sov'aal looked at the Starfleet Officers and signed. "Very well, Do what you must. I will have my men cooperate as needed. I trust your team will respect our privacy and restrict their efforts to the task at hand however?" he paused then looked to the Commander. "It has been a trying time for all of us. my apologies Commander if I seem a bit abbrasive."
Rob understood the Romulan's want for privacy, they were after all still adversaries. However, Lansine wasn't about to kowtow to a Romulan. "Our people will do their best to keep to their own concerns," he paused and placed emphasis on his next words. "If we're going to make this work we have to expect a certain amount of autonomy as well. If you expect us to help I can't have your people babysitting ours." The colorful example might not make sense to the alien man, but Rob used it anyways.
"Many of them will be weary of Strangers, especially federation strangers, however I will make the situation clear to them do not worry." Sov'aal waved the officer off.
The Romulan's voice hinted at the first true bit of antagonism since their arrival. Lansine was surprise it had taken so long. Romulan's were usually, or at least from what he'd learned about them, quick to throw the first preverbal stone. "Don't worry Sov'aal." He finalized the material request he'd been poking at throughout the Romulan's tour and briefing.
"The feeling's mutual."
