Mission: A Spot To Kill
She'd read the reports, and it piqued her interest, so Amelia made her way down to the armory to talk to the keeper of the programs. She moved through the security department with a wake of saluting officers and enlisted, and it left her a little uncomfortable. She knew that they were just showing her respect, but she'd never had her people do that to her when she'd been chief of security on Griffin, and things were much different out in the field for Intel. She figured that people who reached command via a more conventional track probably adjusted to it gradually, but alas she'd have to figure out how to swim after being thrown in the deep end like she'd done with everything else since becoming XO. She approached the armory, where she was told she'd find Senior Chief Petty Officer Martyn Rose.
Routine...
It was the thing that had kept the grey-haired Master At Arms on the ship for so long, he was the master of his routine and noone, not even the pointy-eared Vulcan he had trained, could ever best him at stripping down his rifle and rebuilding it, sat at the desk in a quiet five minutes, the Human had the rifle parts laid out before him, the imaging matrix was in his hand, a microfibre cloth flowing over it slowly, cleaning the crystalline surface.
Amelia cleared her throat from the doorway, smiling at the Chief, his weapon, and the careful care he paid it as it lay in pieces in front of him. She'd been tempted to just stand there silent and watch, it fascinated her to see how others treated their weapons, but if he'd caught her doing such, it might be considered rude. So better to make her presence known right away.
Looking up to the interruption, the Chief smiled and gave a nod to the superior officer, "Commander, to what do I owe the pleasure, it's not often I find one of the command staff gracing my armoury, outside of the required training schedules that is," he replied as he placed the imaging matrix and cloth down in their pre-assigned locations on the desk.
"I saw a report on the training you and Zheer ran for Charlson, Ebonheart, and R'heil in the holodeck. I was hoping to get a first hand look?" Amelia explained, returning the nod. "Is it just training for security, or can it be used for other departments too?"
"It could be modified, however the base programming is for security personnel, they were designed by a former Chief of Security, before your time," the Master at Arms replied with a light chuckle, "It shouldn't prove too hard to modify though, the scenarios are quite... flexible."
"Flexible is good," Amelia returned with a grin. "I don't suppose you can set something up to show me the potential? I'll grab a few crew at random, and we'll see how it goes?"
"I'll see what I can come up with and let you know," Rose replied with a slight smile and a nod.
"Thank you, Chief, I'm looking forward to it," Amelia grinned wide, turning to leave. She paused. "If I like what I see, we'll talk about setting up a regular training schedule for the whole crew."
"I think you will, it proved quite popular and helpful on the Vindicator D, the number of times that we took that ship into battle, it soon prove it's worth." the Master at Arms replied with a quick wink.
"Who made the programs?" Amelia asked as she turned back and leaned against the frame of the door.
"Former Captain Vokar," the greying Master At Arms replied, "He had quite a... flair for the tactical."
"Vokar, huh?" She rolled the name around in her head, trying to figure out why it sounded familiar. She made a mental note to read up on him later. "Thank you, Chief." And with that, Amelia made her way out of the armory.
