The fighter Pilot Lynda Howard made her way down the corridor towards the lift. She had gotten a message from the XO of the ship for the young woman to join her in her office. Which was where Lynda was heading now. Wearing her standard flight jumper she stepped into the holodeck pushing the tail end of her French braid off her shoulder.
"Deck One, please." Lynda requested as the doors closed with a soft whoosh sound. Waiting the few minutes it would take for the lift to move and the doors to open Lynda was stepping off on to the bridge and making her way to the XO's Ready room to see why she had been summoned.
Pressing the chime Lynda waits.
"Enter," Amelia called as she stood in front of an oil painting on her wall. As the doors slid open, she reached out and adjusted the angle it hung at. The painting featured a tall ship with a phoenix on the flag that flew from the mast above the crow's nest. On the deck of the ship, two red heads in tricorn hats, the shorter one in blues at the front, the taller in greens and to the smaller one's right. Behind them, an ensemble of others in pirate garb stood.
Lynda entered the room, "You wanted to see me Commander?" She asked looking to the painting then back to the XO.
"Yes..." Amelia glanced at the woman who'd just walked into her office, glancing at the rank on the flight uniform, and mentally flipping through the fighter wing's roster. "Lieutenant Howard. I'm not sure how rumor filters through the ranks on the marine side of things, but I wouldn't be surprised if you already knew that Vindicator's marines are being reassigned." She waved to the seats in front of her desk as she moved to sit down behind it.
"Yes, I had heard that rumor. I was hoping it was just that, a rumor. but it doesn't look to be the case if I am here getting my reassignment papers." Lynda said moving to take a seat.
"You don't want to leave Vindicator?" Amelia asked as she settled into her chair. Out of her desk drawer she pulled a metal case that someone familiar with twenty century earth might call a cigarette case. She flipped it open, holding it out across the desk and showing the contents to be brightly colored candies in a humanoid shape. "Jelly Baby?"
"No, I don't want to leave Vindicator." Lynda said from where she sat. Blinking at the humanoid shapes wondering why she wasn't surprised. Getting up she took a green one and took a bite out of it's leg as she moved to sit back down. "Thanks."
"If you were to stay on Vindicator, what would you do?" Amelia pulled a purple jelly baby from the case, and snapped it shut. She knew that some of the marines had put down roots outside of their little close knit circle, and suspected conversations like this one would come up when the transfer orders came through; it was part of the reason why she'd elected to go through them one at a time like this.
"I dunno, I'm a pretty good pilot, I could probably fly circles around a few." She said honestly biting the other leg off her humanoid jelly baby.
"You ever fly a ship as big as Vindicator? Or just stick with the smaller craft like your fighter?" She bit off the head of her jelly baby as she asked this, slipping the case back into the desk drawer and awaiting the answer.
"I've flown a ship this size before, I may have been in the marines but I started in starfleet. My pilots training went from flying shuttles to ships to fighter pilots when I joined the Marines after my first two semesters at the academy. I can fly anything you've got here." Lynda told Waterhouse with confidence.
"Anything?" Amelia smirked as the question slipped out. She knew a healthy pilot's ego when she saw one, but knew most were backed with considerable skill. Lynda Howard's service record had nothing in to to indicate she was an exception to that rule, but Amelia couldn't resist the urge to have a little fun. She'd pretty much made up her mind on the matter anyways, and she had no reason to believe Rochelle wouldn't agree. She pulled open the drawer on her desk again, and pulled out a lone piece of paper to place in right in front of the pilot who sat on the other side of the desk.
"Anything." Lynda said with confidence. She leaned forward to take the paper arching one brow at the XO of vindicator wondering what this was about.
"Well, you said anything," Amelia returned, looking to the blank piece of paper the pilot held.
Lynda smiled then proceed to fold the paper up into a paper plane checking the wing span licking her finger she ran it along the tail before letting it fly managing to get one flight around the room on it before it came to land on the desk before Amelia Waterhouse. "Anything." She said again with a twinkle in her eyes.
"Good, my mother would kick my ass if I took on a pilot who couldn't hold up to their ego," Amelia returned with a wink as she picked up the carefully folded paper plane. She turned it in her hands to inspect it, comparing the style of it to the ones her parents had taught her how to fold when she was young. Then she set it down gently and collected a PADD. "Let's get the paperwork started, then I'll talk to Ivanova to make sure she's okay with the reassignment... but I see no reason why she'd have a problem with it."
Lynda laughed softly, "Sounds good to me." Lynda grinned ready to get the paperwork done.
It only took Amelia a moment to get the paperwork loaded onto the PADD, and she passed it across the desk to Lynda.
Lynda accept the PADD, "What's this?" She asked starting to read over the information on the PADD.
"Just standard transfer orders, outlining the details of the new assignment. The computer says you're qualified on everything you need, so there shouldn't be anything that's a surprise in there," Amelia explained.
Lynda gave a nod thumbing through the information. "Sounds like everything's there." She smirked before putting her thumb print down before handing the PADD back to the XO.
"Good, good," Amelia said as she stood up and accepted the PADD. "I don't expect any need for changes, but should anything come up when I bring it to Ivanova's attention, I'll send it to you for review with the changes highlighted. Welcome aboard, well still, Lieutenant." She offered her hand to shake.
"Thank you Commander." Lynda smiled reaching over to shake Amelia's hand that the woman had offered in welcome.
"Check in with the quarter master for your new quarters assignment, and I look forward to seeing you on the bridge soon. Dismissed." Amelia nodded and settled back into her chair.
Lynda gave a nod and turned to leave since she's been dismissed. wow from fighter pilot to helms officer that's going to be a fun transition...
