Once Kelly had the formalities of meeting Commander Waterhouse done and getting her quarter assignment, she made in inquiry in Operations and learned that most of her items had been beamed to the ship. Making arrangements to have almost everything except for Big Bertha and her Whispertech 9000 Hoverbike beamed to her quarters, she made a quick trip to the armory where she made certain that the .454 magnum with the .30 mm grenade launcher was secured. Satisfied with that, she went to the cargo bay where her hoverbike had been assigned and spent a few minutes checking it to make sure that it hadn't been tampered with.
Finally, she went to her quarters and entered, pleased to have a senior officer quarters for the first time in her career. The sheer number of boxes that had been beamed there left the place a maze and she was grateful that she had labeled everything neatly when she was packing for her transfer to Vindicator. Going to a stack of boxes at random, she saw the Kitchen label on the first box she came to and smiled. "The best place to start the day," she said and began to open them.
The first ones she opened contained her skull tea set, skeleton silverware, skeleton coffee mugs, and her body knife holder and knives. Going about the small kitchenette, she placed things in their proper places, hoping to have guests one day that she could terrorize with her eccentric tastes.
Putting other odds and ends that she had collected in her journeys, Kelly went to the next set of boxes that had been labeled
Living room and carefully opened the first one to reveal a series of prints. The first she puleld out was hercherry blossom print which made her smile. Looking around, she placed it above the couch so it would be the first thing scene when someone entered her quarters. Next, she took the geisha print and put it on the wall beside the door. Pulling out the next one, a lotus blossom print, a fond smile crossed her lips. Her girlfriend Gwen had gotten that for her when they had met in the Academy.
She saw that her favorite inspirational music poster was the next to come out and she carried it into her bedroom to put on the wall above her bed. Smiling, she saw the music note poster that her friend James had made for her and put it above the door. The next item was a Beethoven's cat wood burning on pine that her Minion Damian had given her as a graduation present and set it on a stand by the couch.
Opening another box, she removed a skull lamp and set it on the coffee table in front of the couch. Going to another box, she retrieved her terrarium and set it by her window even though the herbs had their own light source, taking a few minutes to get it set up. The last item in the box was a grenade decanter which was still full of Acamarian brandy. Taking it into the kitchenette, she placed it in a cabinet.
Returning to the living room, she saw the biggest box and knew immediately what it was. Going to it, she broke it down to reveal her epic beanbag chair and spent twenty minutes maneuvering it into a corner where it wouldn't interfere with any normal walkways.
The next set of boxes were labeled Bedroom and most contained clothes which she smoothed out and hung up, then retrieved her stuffed were squirrel she called Mister Squibbles, the Admiral Khan ribbon that her first counselor at the Academy had given her, a chocolate molecule necklace and a picture of her and her girlfriend Gwen. Getting everything placed where she wanted it, she went back into the living room for the last two boxes, one of which had holes in it and contained something which made sounds. "Oh, you aren't going to die," she said as she opened the carrier, revealing her Norwegian Forest furrball, Katmandu.
Katmandu gave her a trill and rubbed against her leg, glad to be free of his prison and promptly vanished into the maze of boxes to explore his new home. Going to the replicator, Kelly got a bowl of cat food and a bowl of water and placed them out of the way, then set up his litter box in the secondary bedroom which she doubted would ever be used. Getting his bed and toys out, she set them up in her bedroom.
Finally, she came to the last box labeled Violins and reverently opened it. The first item she pulled out was the custom music PADD that her Papa had given her and she composed all of her mixing and music on. Under that, individually packaged and secured were three electric violins; the first was her blue violin which she set up on its stand in her bedroom. The next was her favorite, a black violin with blue flames which joined the first, and the last was her practice one, a red violin of unusual design.
Going to the kitchen, she retrieved her violin coffee mug and went to the replicator, placing it on the tray. "Coffee, one sugar. No cream. Use current container." When the replicator filled it, she smiled and went to flop down in her beanbag chair. "Ah...now to relax," she said to no one as she settled into it. A moment later, Katmandu jumped into her lap as she sipped her coffee, stomped in circle on her lap, and settled down to sleep.
