Mission: Secret Meetings

Saul took off toward the station the moment he was allowed. He hit the chime on the hotel room door and Lorina stood there when the door swooshed open, "Well, hello there." The embrace and kiss looked rather convincing as she ushered him inside. "I have a holodeck reserved and then we can spend the rest of your shoreleave ... well, honeymooning." She laughed at the idea. "I'd like to get started working with your friend, but... appearances..."

"Yea." Saul nodded solemnly. "Now that we're in the same room, I can give you more details..."

Saul spent the next hour or so telling what he knew about Saia's situation, including the little bits and pieces the others had no idea were even imaginable by people not involved in the shadowy parts of life like he was.

Meanwhile, Saia, Kevin, and Nara still had shifts to finish. Nara had go by herself to the bars and such. She was in the mood to be alone and brood about the current situation she found herself in. She was all but helpless to Saia. Saul was fixing it. She was grateful to him, but her only part in the plan was not to kill the woman that kept her away from Saul. She was an outsider suddenly in Saia's life.

However, Kevin made plans to take Saia to the arboretum to try to help her nerves. He let her take her time getting ready as he looked over some PADDs on the couch.

Saia rubbed her forehead as she looked at her trembling hands. "Where's the hypos Saul left?" She stepped out of the bedroom and looked around.

Kevin looked up from the sofa, "I gave you the last one last night."

"What? When?" She looked confused. Everything was a blur. She remembered her routine, but went about it like a robot. She slept fitfully, but she lay in bed all night. Then it hit her. Last night seemed rather... short. "Why? How?"

"Hypo. Around 0200. Because I was exhausted and you kept shouting. I pressed it to your neck and... swoosh." He gave a half smirk as he felt somewhat clever, but then looked at her shamefully, "It was selfish of me. But you've ever been so tired, you didn't think straight?" He cleared his throat and muttered, "So you can understand," as he sank down looking back at his PADD. "Sorry. But Saul's friend is coming before we ship off again."

Saia moaned and held herself doubling over sliding down the wall. "I can't take this. I'm ripped to shreds. I can't find peace."

Kevin stepped over, gently, but pushing back the tired annoyance, "Then this shoreleave will be good for you. You wanted to see the botanist's experiments in the arboretum here, remember?"

"I'm shaking. They'll see something's wrong..."

"And I'll say, 'That's why we're taking a breather here.'"

It took about fifteen minutes, but Kevin got her calmed enough to go to the station arboretum. Unfortunately, about an hour later, just as Kevin breathed a sigh of relief that Saia seemed to become less tense as she stared and touched different plants, the call came. Kevin got connected to Saul.

"Sorry, getting married. Talk to you back on the ship." Saul closed the connection and slipped the ring on Lorina's finger and kissed her quickly. He smiled charmingly and waved at Lorina's small family and the officiator as he gently gripped Lorina's hand to rush down the aisle, calling, "Duty calls!"

Outside the holodeck, he kissed her cheek, "I'll meet you in our quarters as soon as I can get there. You remember where I said the room was?"

Lorina nodded, "I'll throw things in my bag and hurry quickly." He was dashing off before she even finished her sentence. She chuckled and rushed toward her room quickly.

Saia and Kevin had made it back to the ship, but after Kevin and Saia split up in their different directions, he went to Engineering. On his way there, he spotted a woman leisurely wandering about. "Can I help you?"

She turned and a flash of recognition splashed on her face as she smiled, "Actually, I'm here to help you."

Kevin frowned, "Excuse me?"

"I'm Lorina. You interrupted my wedding." She was still smiling warmly.

"I wanted to be sure Saul understood we were leaving sooner and... to be sure you... were still coming."

Lorina smiled, "I know. I had to pack more quickly than I had thought. I have a few suits that are going to have to be ironed rather strenuously." She waited a moment, but it was an awkward pause, so she chuckled, "Well, I can walk with you." Kevin followed and the corridor was quiet with that awkwardness between two strangers who knew they'd soon be large parts of the other's life.

Kevin finally spoke, "Thank you, by the way."

Lorina paused to look at him, "Well, you must hurry too, I imagine, but do tell me about you and Saia as we walk."

"Oh, you jump right in." Kevin had looked about as he thought and when he turned to look back at her, she had already started back down the corridor. He rushed to catch up with her, "Well, what do you mean? We're a couple."

"Yes. Saul told me. You're a very strong young man. I plan to talk with you as well. And Naranda. I'd talk to Saul, but there are interrogators who couldn't get anything out of him that he didn't wish to reveal."

Kevin's face contorted as he formed his question a moment before letting it out, "Well, living with him might help with that. I also think Naranda is just as clammed up. Are you sure you want to talk with her? Even with... understanding, she... Well, wear a coat."

Lorina laughed, "This is a very tense, complicated situation, but what's life without a little briar patch on the way to the top of a mountain?"

Kevin was about to say more, but he saw the security at the other end of the corridor showing they could be overheard rather easily. "You better get back to your quarters."

Lorina nodded, "Of course."

As Naranda turned the corner, she saw a woman walk away from Kevin. She caught Kevin's eyes and the way he hurried toward Engineering, told her who the woman was. She watched the woman sashay down the opposite way in the corridor. She took a deep breath and the switch in her brain moved to duty. Whatever they got called back early for overrode any personal crisis.
