Mission: Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: USS Vindicator, Executive Officer's Office
Timeline: Backlog - Prior to Leaving for Colony's surface

=/\= XO's Office =/\=

News of Romulans had shook the crew into a bit of a frantic scurry, and while Rob appreciated their new found vigor, it had caused a few problems across the ship. While he hadn't read up on all of the cases, the few he'd managed to look over were almost humorous. Ensigns and Lieutenants barking at one another in the corridors, enlisted crew working through their off-shifts to complete seemingly menial tasks.

It was important to stay calm in situations like these, and while the Captain's decision to tread dangerously close to Romulan space may have rubbed Rob the wrong way at first, the prospect of offering aid provided Lansine a rationale to cease with his worry.

The door buzzed, and Lansine suddenly remembered calling in the MCO. He hadn't had much time to get to know Eberos' replacement, but from his personnel file the new Marine chief seemed competent.

"Come."

"Commander Captain Dar told me I should report into you about the away mission?" Ellis said standing at attention and snapping off a salute.

"Yes, yes." Rob motioned for the Marine to take a seat. There were a few things the two needed to go over regarding their Romulan 'friends' on the colony.

"I don't suppose you've read any of the reports coming out of Starfleet Command about the Romulan government?" Lansine asked. He didn't know the Marine Captain all that well, and while Rob made it a personal point to read every Starfleet Security memo that crossed his desk, he wasn't quite as sure a Marine would care too much for SFSEC reports. Hopefully someone at Trinity Tower had happened to write a report as well.

"I've been keeping up with the reports. But this colony seems a bit out of place even for the Romulans." Ellis said looking at the XO, "and if the Romulans do find out we're helping them they won't see it that way."

Rob nodded, "Yes, though I believe the separate question of 'which' Romulan government we're about to lend aid to presents an equally important issue." Lansine was of course referring to the new reports of civil war between the Empress' Empire and the Tal Shiar/Senate led Romulan Commonwealth. "We're already jumping head first into a situation we know little about. The last thing I want is to get embroiled in a intrastate conflict and be caught aiding the wrong side."

Ellis nodded, "what information does intelligence have on this colony if anything?"

Rob frowned, "I was hoping you might have something." He looked back to his padd hoping to see something he missed. I have a request out to our resident intelligence officer, but so far I haven't heard anything about the colony's relationship to the Empire."

"Well from a military standpoint it doesn't make sense to have a colony this far out. Logistics is too messy for supplies, troops and equipment. But again it could've been a jump point or even a forwarded operating base." Ellis said giving off suggestions of what this place may have been.

Again, Lansine nodded. The Captain's information seemed to make sense. "I'll make sure to run this past Lieutenant Webb." Rob stood, signaling the end of their short meeting. "Thank you for your insight, Captain. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you in the future."

"Same here." Ellis said standing up and giving the commander a quick salute before walking out of the office.
