Mission: Are You Touched?
Location: Sickbay

Neyes walked into the medical offices down the corridor from his own. They were but a stone's throw away, Sickbay and Counseling, for obvious reasons. Yet he had managed to avoid going anywhere near the massive hospital-like medical facility since his arrival on board. The Chief medical officer and Tristan would likely be working closely together, so he had wanted to wait until the man was on board before going in for his initial medical evaluation.

Now, he found himself going to sickbay for a slightly different reason. Since being joined, he was being assaulted with painful headaches. He had been satisfied with a glass of water and some quiet time, which had quelled the pulsing drone of his head until now. As soon as he was unable to concentrate on his work, however, he knew it was time to see the Doctor.

Walking into the main lobby, he was fortunate enough to recognize the Chief medical officer from his personnel file. A quick walk to the other side of the room as he was within talking distance, "Doctor. I'm glad to see you made it on board alright."

Looking up from the padd he was reading, Rotek nodded in acknowledgment "Counselor Neyes. It's nice to meet you. Is there something I can help you with today?" Even though he was projecting as much calm and professional demeanor as he could, he was concerned the counselor would pick up on his ... struggles.

"Doctor Rotek." Tristan's voice hinted at his relief. The niceties would need to wait. "You have anything for a headache?"

Gesturing for the man to sit on a nearby biobed, he grabbed a tricorder and began scanning him. As he did so he said "Have these headaches happened recently? Or have they been an ongoing issue for you?"

Neyes closed his eyes and his brow shot up. To say they were just headaches was a little bit of an understatement, but he was doing his best not to sound too distracted by something so paltry. "To tell you the truth I started getting them rather frequently after joining. I was told I would get some mild discomfort, for a while," he cringed, the sounds of the room starting to ricochet pain through his skull, "but... this may qualify as something more." The lights in the room felt like looking into the sun.

"Just tell me everything isn't as loud as it sounds," Tristan attempted to joke, the room still assaulting his senses.

Nodding, Rotek loaded a hypo and pressed it to the man's neck. Consulting his tricorder he said "I've given you a mild pain reliever. It should lessen the pain in your head. Also the headaches are very normal after joining. Both yourself and the symbiont are adjusting to each other, and your brains are getting used to each other essentially. Also the influx of the memories of the previous hosts can cause some physiological discomfort." Pausing, he added "May I ask if you are experiencing any discomfort in your abdomen? I understand there can be some tenderness in the pouch area for a while as well."

"No," the counselor said plainly, glossing over the question as his attention drifted. His eyes trailed along the edges of the large central area, and he could immediately feel the effects of the drug begin to calm his frayed senses. The noises quieted, the lights softened, and his head's pulsating throb lessened to a mild discomfort. He smiled up at the doctor, "I already feel better. Thank you, Doctor."

Neyes adjusted his shoulders and stretched his neck from side to side, before addressing the Doctor with his due politeness. His warm and gentle posture, as well as his shorter physique, seemed to harshly contrast when it came to the Klingon man's own person. Having a Klingon doctor was a bit unusual, for a Federation ship at least. Klingons rarely had their own physicians on a Klingon ship, much less an alien's.

"And if you don't mind me asking, you seem to have settled in well, so how has your transition to the Vindicator been so far? I haven't had the chance to come say hello until now, I'm sorry it was work related." He joked.

Avoiding his eyes without realizing it, by tapping some notes into his padd, Rotek replied "It's been ok. There's been a lot to learn, especially since the medical deck is so vast. And its ok that we haven't met yet, maybe we could catch up sometime for a drink in the lounge."

"Great," Tristan grinned, "sounds like a plan. I won't take any more of your time, Doctor. Please have a pleasant afternoon." Neyes stood down off the biobed and took another long look around the medical facilities. They would more than certainly be in contact on a regular basis, especially since their departments worked so closely. "Remember, I'm just down the hall if you need me."

Nodding, Rotek focused on cleaning up the biobed the man had just left. Politely he replied "Thank you Counselor. I'll see you soon." As the man left, he let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. He'd gotten through the day without letting what was bothering him slip. He knew it wasn't healthy, but it was the best way to cope for now.
