Mission: Are You Touched?
Location: Main Engineering

Vlimar kept looking over the specification of the Communication relays, shaking his head. The update he tried to accomplish wasn't going to be possible, unless similar updates were made to the EPS relays and a reprogramming of the warp core distribution to the Communication systems was accomplished. The Commander could have done it himself, however, he lacked the authorizations to do such an operation on the vessel. Besides, he hadn't handled the Engines since quite a long time, so though he would kill two birds with one stone: Getting his update done professionally and a chance to meet Almar, who he still hadn't met since his arrival.

Stepping out the elevator, looking around him, he simply did not recognize the layout. It was... different from what he had seen over this long career.

Hanging from the underside of a gantry, Almar had a strap around his midriff that held him in place and his toolbox hung next to him, swaying slightly each time he took an item from it and steadying with the momentum, he was working on one of the more difficult sections to access, he could have gone down through the gantry, but it would have added a little extra time and more work in replacing said gantry, it was much quicker to get things done this way, although Rochelle may chastise him for it if she could see the predicament he'd placed himself in.

Over by the door, a technician wearing the utility uniform came to a halt before the Commander who stood, admiring the view perhaps, he came to attention and placed a stoic expression on his face, "Can I help you Commander? The Engineering bay is restricted during repair procedures, Commander Dahe'el is quite explicit in his wishes."

Vlimar nodded. "Well, I am here for Commander Dahe'el, actually.", he replied, sternly. "I would like to speak to him, if you please.", he asked. While his words remained posed and polite, his tone was strong and cold. He remained at his exact position, not infiltrating the Engineer further, but not removing himself upon the technician's demand.

"You'll find him under the gantry near the cores, just give him a whistle, he might be lost in his work." the Technician replied, giving the Commander a curt nod before rushing off to continue his work.

On hearing the conversation, on the edge of his dulled hearing, the Cardassian turned slightly and fixed his gaze towards the door, seeing the newcomer and his rank gave him pause for thought before he went back to his work and waited for the Commander to come to him.

Vlimar began walking towards the area where he was informed that the CEO was located. Looking on up, down and sideways, he noticed a silouette obviously busy, hard at work. He slowly tugged his uniform tunic down, and said: "Commander Dahe'el?" He looked up at the Commander, noticing his Cardassian heritage and took a deep breathe. Vlimar's history with the Cardies have been one of war, pain and death.

"Commander?" the Cardassian asked as he pulled himself out of the strap, his large hands gripping the underside of the gantry and his muscled arms lowering him down to the deck, "I do not believe I have had the pleasure." he added, extending one of the plate sized hands to the Human.

Vlimar immediately grabbed the hand in his' and shook firmly. "Vlimar PontBrillant, Operations.", he stated, looking coldly at the Cardassian in front of him.

"What can I do for you Commander PontBrillant?" Almar asked as he clasped his hands behind his back after retrieving the one from the grasp of the Operations officer, "I am quite busy."

Vlimar smirked at the comment. Obviously, he was busy, he was the Chief Engineer of a ship being repair. "Yes, aren't we all.", he replied, smiling. He then immediately extended a PADD with specifications. "I have taken the liberty of modifying the internal communication relays, to allow easier conversations between multiple departments, while increasing encryption.", he stated. "I hope it will be acceptable on your side.", he added, coldly.

"Taking liberties is not something I approve of, modifications in general do need to be authorised by the Command team and the Chief Engineer, before they are installed." the Cardassian replied as he looked over the information handed to him, "However I cannot see any problems with them, so they meet with my approval, is there anything else you would like to pass by me?"

Vlimar looked at Dahe'el as he commented on the approval procedures. Although he knew the procedure, he decided not to follow it, taking care of the fact that the ship was being repaired, in a dry dock, for immediately going ahead with the modifications. "My apologies, Commander. Will make sure to run it by you next time.", he replied, coldly, having enough of this conversation already.

"Make sure you do, I built this ship and I approve any modifications to her," Almar replied with a slight flash in his eyes as he read the body language and the tone of the Commander before him, "I'm her guardian,"

Vlimar eyed the Cardassian in front of him, severely. "With all due respect for your position, the ship was built by Starfleet, for Starfleet. And unless you are promoted to head this ship, Captain Ivanova is her guardian.", he responded directly. As soon as he uttered those words, Vlimar felt a cold chill coming on top of his spine. Was he starting a fight for the purpose of old confrontations? Was he, actually, giving attitude to a fellow Department Head? What was he thinking...

"You are right, of course, the ship was built by Starfleet, for Starfleet," the Cardassian replied as he pulled him up to the full height of his build, a fire building in his eyes, "Discovery project leader, Lieutenant Commander Almar Dahe'el, Utopia Planetia Fleet Yards, first and only Chief Engineering Officer," he continued, his arms opening wide to encompass the engineering deck, "Everything you see around you, built under my supervision and to my exacting specifications, if you knew anything about Engineers then you would know that the ships are ours,"

Vlimar smiled. "Oh, I am sure you call a lot of things yours.", he replied, coldly but amused. His eyes kept staring at him, as he noticed the rather change in his behaviour. He was provoking him and his last sentence had a significant meaning for Vlimar. He poked him, seeing how he would react. Again, Vlimar knew he was acting like a teenager, but, for the sake of history, he needed to see this through.

"Only things which are mine," the Cardassian replied, his calm returning as he chose not to rise to the provokation from the Human, "If there is nothing else Commander, I have work to do."

Vlimar smiled. "There is plenty more, but it can wait for another time.", he stated, softly. Vlimar offered the PADD to the Commander for him to keep and turned around, walking towards the door.
