Mission: Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: During the rescue mission

Captain Dar sat behind his desk waiting for the Romulan Commander to arrive. The request to come aboard and speak with him privately would not have been strange if it hadn't come so quickly following the hostilities with the other Romulan Warbird. Dar had a nagging feeling that there was more to their presence here all of a sudden.

The Romulan arrived quickly, escorted by a security officer who was quickly dismissed from the ready room.

"I am Commander Louris. Thank you for seeing me under such tense circumstances, Captain." the Romulan began, clearly having diplomatic experience.

Olan nodded, "I'm only glad you arrived when you did. I was not looking forward to the necessity of having to destroy a warbird today." he motioned for the Romulan to have a seat as he moved back behind his desk.

"Yes. Even though the ship and crew were operating under Tal'Shiar orders and the upstart Commonwealth, it most likely still would not have gone over well." Louris stated.

"You are no doubt aware that the Federation is currently at war with the Tholians and the Romulan commonwealth has allied with them." Olan said, hoping to perhaps bridge something here between common foes.

Louris nodded and straightened a bit, "Captain, I was sent to intercept your ship on orders from the Empress herself."

Captain Dar had to force himself to keep his jaw in place but compensated by allowing a surprised raising of his eyebrows, "The Empress." he nodded slowly, "Please, continue Commander."

"The Empress desires a dialog with your President, in person, in a neutral location. She personally asked me to come speak with you so as to keep this information from being intercepted." the Romulan reached into his uniform and produced a data chip, "Details on how to arrange the time and place securely with the Empress can be found here. I am certain that your intelligence agents will want to examine it, that is acceptable."

Olan reached over to take the chip, "I must be honest, Commander. I am very surprised by this turn of events."

He examined the chip between his fingers for only a moment but his mind was racing with the possibilities for the future of Federation-Romulan relations that he held in his hand.

"The Empress also requested that you deliver this information personally to the President. These plans must be kept to the highest of secrecy." Louris stated with just enough force in his voice to ensure he was taking this mission of his as the highest duty.

The potential in this could not be understated and Olan found himself feeling a similar sense of duty.

"Tell the Empress that I will personally place this into the President's hand. What he does with it will be up to him though. I cannot make a promise on his behalf." Olan said as he put the chip into his own pocket for safe keeping.

"Understood, Captain. I will inform the Empress of our meeting." he stood, intending to leave as their business was complete.

Olan stood and escorted him out of the ready room, "Again, I appreciate your timely arrival no matter the original intention."

"How long will you need to prepare for departure, Captain?" Louris asked, getting down to the core of it. They wanted Starfleet out of their business ultimately.

"As soon as our missing crewman is recovered we should be able to depart soon. We may need some time to assess the condition of the USS Kennedy to ensure she can make it back to Federation space under her own power." Olan advised him as they approached the transporter room aft of the bridge, "Following that we will leave you to deal with matters here and what Tal'Shiar remain on the planet."

"I understand you were attempting to assist the colonists with a medical issue." Louris said, pausing just before the pad to look at Dar, "I will inform the Empress of your willingness to assist Romulan citizens and that through your actions the Tal'Shiar plot on this planet was exposed."

Again Olan was surprised by this Romulan but he simply nodded and offered a polite smile, "Thank you, Commander. Your assistance will also be noted. Perhaps this will help our two leaders to find some new common ground."

"We shall see, Captain. The Commonwealth is a threat to us both. One we will not allow to stand for long." he stepped up onto the pad, "Until next time, Captain Dar."

As the Romulan disappeared from the transporter pad Olan felt the weight of a war and the relations of two powers settle on him. His task was a small one really, but it could change so much.
