Mission: Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: USS Vindicator, Tactical Planning Room
Timeline: SD 241211.29

=/\= Tactical Planning Room =/\=

Captain Dar had actually not been into the small tactical planning room situated directly behind the bridge. Though small was a relative thing on this ship it was actually just a little smaller than the XO's ready room. The room had a good sized table with holographic displays, seating for six and more room to stand.

Olan had called in King, Williams and Neyes to review the information the fighters had sent back about their discovery on the other side of the system.

Ellis was still getting used to be called to the bridge to add his opinion and expertise to things. But he was slowly getting the hang of it. "Captain, commanders." He said with a polite nod.

"As you may have heard already our patrol found a derelict ship in shallow orbit of the system's outer planet." Olan began the briefing and brought up a holographic mock up of the planet with the derelict in orbit. The ship itself was actually very large but against the bigger planet it was like a fly.

He zoomed in to view the ship in more detail, at least as much as the fighters were able to relay. Much of the ship details were extrapolated by the computer.

"It appears to be Romulan. Not a ship we commonly see as ones like this tend to operate entirely within their borders, but there you have it."

Looking at the relative data, "would we be able to pull it out of it's degrading orbit?"

"Possibly," Olan said, "Assuming it is structurally sound. According to the scans it received heavy disruptor damage at some point. We'd need the Vindicator to move something this big but I don't want to leave our away team on the planet unsupported right now."

Olan glanced from the display to his officers, "Which, gentlemen, is where you come in. I want you to go out and have a look around."

"Not much to look at." Landon teased.

Ellis just grinned and nodded, "sounds perfect I'll get a squad ready!"

Hayden read the sensor readings. "If there is a question on the stability of the ship, or whats left of it, we should keep the teams small; but i can have my men ready in 10."

"Take one of the runabouts and scan it in detail before going aboard. A small team consisting of a security and engineering mix with marines for backup should suffice." Olan offered.

Neyes nearly dropped his PADD. "Oh. On it. Already done. There's a runabout prepped for a landing mission in bay 12. I was going to use it to land on the planet, but I was supplanted by the transporter."

"Just curious though, what are we looking for? Or is this one of those fantastic Starfleet 'explore for the sake of knowledge', missions." Neyes asked, skimming through a manifest for the mission.

"For one thing, if there is a derelict Rommie ship in the system; I would feel much better knowing why it is there and what happened to it." Hayden replied.

Olan nodded to Hayden, "Precisely. We have a fledgling Romulan civilian colony below us and then we find a very large, nearly blown to bits, Romulan ship which just happens to be big enough to hold enough people and equipment for a small colony?"

"I'm not a suspicious man by nature, but if that ship belonged to them, then someone didn't want them out here and the suspect list is very short." Olan explained, recalling the data on the weapon signature still on the ship.

Ellis continued looking at the specs, "too me it looks like a colony or even potentially a mining ship.......but what I've gotten from intel there's not really a lot of natural resources space borne or on the planet to potentially set-up a mining colony. Which leaves really only one other option that this was supposed to be a forward operating base for the Empire."

Neyes frowned, "That's quite a leap. I agree the ship most likely belonged to the colony, but we don't know anything. I know there are Romulan separatists creeping around somewhere, which for all we know, are camping out on the rugged little colony below us. I'm not saying Romulans aren't prone to certain... ambitions. I just think we should give the colonists the benefit of the doubt."

Olan nodded to Neyes, "I have to agree. This is an odd spot for a military outpost and if it was we should also have run across at least one warbird by now. As for the separatists, their claimed space is hundreds of light years away by the Tholian border so hopefully we don't have them to worry about."

"All the same, be on alert." he added, "Anything else?"

Ellis shook his head both at not having anything else to say and also at what the other lieutenant commander had to say. But again his training was very different that probably what the commanders was.

Dar deactivated the display, "Good. On your way then. Also, don't forget environment suits. That ship has no life support at all."

"Fire teams 1 and 2 well meet you in the shuttle bay." Ellis said deciding on this mission he should go on and have Brad lead the other fire team.

"Security, have a squad report to shuttle bay 1. Te'shara, John Jackson you are also with me."
