Mission: Secret Meetings
=/\= Marine Barracks =/\=
Neyes arrived at the Marine barracks after a short stint of meeting the department heads. Now it was time for him to meet with the marine captain to discuss the future of the marines on the ship and their part in the coming missions. Historically, neither Landon or Ellis had a fondness for one another, but as the first officer, he was going to have to find some way to bridge the severing gap between them.
Neyes, while confident and with purpose, was just as much out of place in a place like the marine sections of the Vindicator. Naval officers aimed to please, but his experience with marines showed him how brutish and thick-headed they operated. The difference between the Earth animals Eagle and Rhinoceros. It wouldn't be easy. He offered a few looks around, trying to find the captain.
"Can I help you Commander?" Lance Corporal Sophie-Ann King asked the out of place naval officer.
"Actually I'm looking for Captain King. He around here anywhere,..." Neyes eyed her badge, "Lance Corporal?"
Ellis was looking over the after action reports before sending up the command chain within the Marine corps. Sighing a little as he was getting more and more paper work the more and more he climbed the rank ladder.
"He's in his office let me see if he's busy?" Sophie Ann said as she moved to her desk and hit the comm, "King we've a vistor you free to see him?"
"Depends? Who is it?" King asked setting his feet on the ground.
Landon watched the young woman move over to a room at the far side of the barracks. He slowly followed her until he saw the brusk image of King through the window to his office. Immediately, he moved in behind the Corporal.
"Just me, Captain." Landon said cheerfully, only slightly throwing in a menacing tone. "I'd like to speak if you have the time."
Sophie Ann quickly backed away deciding to let the men whip them out and measure them. Ellis sighed if he wasn't the blasted XO he would've send him packing but he didn't really have a choice. "A drink?" Ellis asked as a yes answer.
Neyes wasn't one for drinking much, but given he was inside King's office, and he hadn't slept since Rob left... this would be an exception. He nodded a little, "Whatever you're having."
Ellis just nodded as he poured two tumblers of scotch handing one to Landon and keeping the other for himself.
Landon accepted the drink with another nod, and took a quick swig. "I wanted to go over your resource acquisition request for the upcoming mission. I'm afraid we can only offer a 5% increase in replicator resources and power. You may need to repair broken equipment in the future rather than recycle and replicate new ones. We took on the improved mark VII rifles at Starbase, but half your team isn't qualified to use them. You're going to need to train the rest of your squad before we arrive, or they'll need to stick to the older models." Neyes tried to maintain a non-specific and placid tone of voice. He was asking quite a bit, but given the strain of resources since the start of the war, the Vindicator hadn't received half of the equipment and support they had been expecting.
"And how long do I have to get my men qualified for the new type VIIs?" Ellis said preferring the Mk 1 carbines to the rifles much easier to use and navigate in the settings that they had operated in the past.
Landon took another drink, "I'm going to suggest your entire detachment be fully capable with the 7's in the next three days. They're not difficult to use. I'm also going to suggest the older rifles be recycled for reserve power. We're going to need it. That is of course, up to you as Marine Captain."
Ellis nodded, "my men well be ready to use the new VIIs......and I have no problem recycling the old Mk Is." He said knowing that not all of them wouldn't be mainly his and along with 1st Platoon, 1st Squad would be keeping their extremely modified Mk Is.
Neyes' held a steady gaze, but started to heavily assess the man's behavior. This was going a little too well. "Lastly, it looks like Engineering has been getting a slough of repair orders for the barracks replicator systems." Landon stopped short of the complete report. Apparently, someone in the Marine detachment got it into their heads they could reprogram the system to create more than just meals. Replacement parts for a man-sized, 3D shooting target were among the attempted creations.
"Let's try to keep our replicator demands to foodstuffs, ok?"
Ellis just gave him a smirk, "of course..." Ellis said allowing to trail off, "anything else that the command team is not fond of?"
The new XO flashed Ellis a look, which silently spoke the word 'you'.
Landon stood. He was already looking forward to whatever duty required him to leave the cocky presence of the Marine Captain. Naturally, Landon could tell his own self-control wasn't quite enough to park the irritation he felt towards the man.
"I'll let you know, King. The complete transcription of the required adjustments will be in your database if you need to review them." He paused. "Which you will. I'll check in to see that it's been taken care of before we arrive at the mission check-point." Neyes down the rest of his drink and set the glass down on the desk with a forceful tap. "Till then, Marine Captain."
"Can't wait commander." Ellis said standing up to watch the man go he wouldn't be surprised if the man would try and convince Dar that they didn't need the Marines on the Vindi.
