SD 241211.23 Joint Log | Visiting The Colony

Mission: Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: Outside Romulan Colony

The two Romulans waited at the edge of their colony for the arrival of Starfleet officers. Their would be saviors.

Doctor Lovok found the irony amusing. They had set out on their own without the aide of the empire and now they were getting help from one of the empire's biggest opponents at any given time.

Governor Sov'aal stood next to a large tree that marked the outside limit of the colonies perimeter. The doctor seemed to enjoy something about this meeting, he just could not put his finger on just what that would be. Sov'aal found the very nature of asking for assistance an insult to the honour of all on the colony. However, without this aid it seems that there would be no colony to govern.

The older Romulan stood patiently, hands clasp behind his back as he waited for the Starfleet team. Unlike the Governor he had never been in the military so had no direct experience with Starfleet in any capacity and he strangely found himself looking forward to the experience. His stance tightened as he saw the blue shimmer of a transport in the distance.

Lt Saunders instantly found the botany of the planet interesting and she figured that if there was enough time she might just be able to catalog a couple of species. As they proceeded to the rendezvous point her eye caught some wild growing Kali-Kaleh trees standing a little off the road. She took up her padd and made a note as to their whereabouts. ""It would be good to check these ones too and see if they have something out of the ordinary growing on them. "" Jesse pondered.

Saia smiled at the woman, but whispered, "Later."

"Stay in formation, people." Commander Lansine was leading the away team towards the target coordinates and away from the transport location when he spotted the first Romulan. The green-tinted man appeared behind a nearby tree and appeared as though he had been tracking their group since their arrival. Rob was about to open his mouth and call out for the man when three more suddenly appeared out of the brush in front of them. The sudden surprise of Romulans in their path caused obvious concern among the away team, and more than a few looked startled.

Saia froze and stepped back. "Oh shit. It's a trap." She resisted the urge to smack her commbadge and watched Lansine, still unconsciously backing toward the transport site slowly.

One of the group was feeling even more out of place than usual, Almar was ill at ease among Starfleet Officers, however he was even more wary of the Romulans that they were now approaching.

Jesse thought about the whole situation and wished that she could just go back and inspect the flora. Why in the world would the Romulans ask for help and then look like they were about to attack. "Commander, just smile and maybe they'll see we are friendly" Jesse whispered.

Corporal April Jensen or according her uniform she was a crewmen first class for the squids. She had no weapons but she was also the top in her squad for hand to hand combat and knife work. April stayed in formation, "stand your ground they're like predators if they sense fear they'll strike!" She said in a whisper but a strong calm of type of whisper.

Ke'al glanced around thinking, "She is right about one thing one false move could be our last, but out of fear more than any predator instincts they may have." Ke'al could smell it on them.

Doctor Lovok quickly moved forward through the other colonists to approach the away team, "Please everyone, they are here at our request." he waved his hands at the Romulans, indicating that they should back off or return to the colony proper.

Lovok turned to the team and gave them a quick once over then settled on Commander Lansine, "I am Doctor Lhaerrh Lovok, head physician of the colony." he introduced himself.

Ke'al stepped up beside Commander Lansine. He had been use to being in charge in the classroom setting, and very nearly usurped the Commander's authority. Thinking better of it at the last moment, Ke'al instead made a slight sputtering sound hoping the Commander would set him on his way. He looked around at the gathered colonists and could almost see the mistrust and xenophobia written on their faces. He knew he would have a long way to go in curing these people if that was even possible and was chomping at the bit to get started.

Saia was still slowly backing away. She had began to tremble and she was getting light headed from the panic.

"Lieutenant hold your ground!" April growled. "They won't attack us we've the upper hand!" She hissed.

Ke'al heard the Marine Medic hissing, quickly surveyed the group, and noticed one of away team members lagging behind a bit. She was unsteady on her feet, so Ke'al fell back to check on her. "Lieutenant, you look a little ill. Is there anything I can do for you?"

Saia paused hearing the command. Her heart was beating in her ears, but she could hear them, even if it sounded as if she were deep in a pool. She nodded, somehow confusing the question as asking if she were OK.

Ke'al pulled the tricorder from its pouch on his belt instinctively, and removed the cylindrical medical probe from its clip. He could smell anxiety and fear all around him with the Romulans looking on but thought he could detect it coming from the Chief Science Officer as well. “I am just going to take a quick read and make sure you’re OK, Lieutenant.” Ke'al said in a hushed, almost purring tone.

The tricorder read off the results almost instantly and it was as Ke'al had thought, she was on the verge of a full blown anxiety attack. “Lieutenant, I’m going to give you Rexlin, a mild sedative to help calm you I think a 6cc dose should suffice.” Ke'al loaded the hypospray and held it up to Lieutenant Roswell’s arm. “There we go. You should feel the effects already.” Ke'al wanted to smile but a Caitian’s smile looked much like a Klingon’s grimace and in any case no one was ever reassured by it. “Now what do you say we catch up with the rest of the away team, hmm?”

As gentle as the action was, Saia jumped back frightened. But the medicine took affect and she swallowed. She still looked at the wary Romulans nervously. "Not until it's all sorted."

Sov'aal took a long breath as he looked at the Federation Officers. he stepped forward after what seemed like an hour. "Greetings, I am Governor Sov'aal. This is my Chief Of staff Tomek, and Doctor Lovok. Thank you for coming to our aid." he nodded curtly.

Lovok nodded, watching the Trill girl curiously, "Yes, if you'll follow us..." he motioned behind them toward the small colony town.

The entire performance in front of him was a bit... unsettling. Lansine had spent enough time with Starfleet Intelligence briefs about the newest news about their Romulan counterparts, but nothing could have prepared him for the disjointed effort unfolding in front of him. "Let's just hold on one moment." He turned from the Romulan greeting party back to the group of Starfleet officers, and then back again, giving him time to digest what was happening.

Lovok paused and turned back to Lansine, "Commander?" he was naturally anxious to get the health of his fellow colonists addressed so his surprise was evident.

Rob snapped back to moment, "Yes." He looked back to Lovok. "Lead the way." Had their away team consisted of Landon, or perhaps even Captain Dar, Lansine would have glanced a concerned expression towards them. But as the most senior officer outside of their new Cardassian, someone Rob had made a point not to meet thus far, he was out of luck.

Doctor Lovok nodded and turned to resume leading them back with the governor and giving the other lingering Romulans another wave and glare. He may be Romulan but he was a doctor as well and if he was going to save anyone they needed this.
