Mission: Romulan Ale.. I mean Aide
Location: USS Vindicator

=/\= Deck 7, Main Shuttlebay =/\=

It was important for a Captain to be intimately familiar with his ship and standing on the main floor of the largest of the two shuttlebays it dawned on him that it could take a while to do.

This new Discovery-class Vindicator was a big ship but a lot of the scale was lost on you when you walked around the normal sized corridors and took turbolifts everywhere you went but standing there now the scale was undeniable.

The ship was over half a kilometre at its widest point and deck 7, being mostly open space to accommodate the shuttles and their function just about spanned that on its own. Not to mention the space he was standing in took up another two decks above him with space on the deck below just for the fighter wing.

It was well and truly a massive ship.

Turning his attention to something more normal sized he took a walk around one of the brand new shuttles, a type 14 the specs told him, that have come with the new ship. This Vindicator had no fewer than 60 of these stashed inside it.

They were very sleek craft and he could easily see them skimming through space or an atmosphere. The main nacelles were tucked in close to the hull rather than sticking out on struts like so many other shuttles in the past.

For personal shuttles they were also fairly well armed too.

He opened the rear hatch and walked inside. Not much within the shuttle was a surprise. The layout was standard with two pilot seats and an auxiliary console behind them for a third person. The shuttle had space for another 3 comfortably but he could clearly see it could fit more in an emergency.

Olan sat down in the pilot's chair and ran his hands over the currently inactive black surface of the control panel. One new thing he did notice was that the control panels around the shuttle did appear to take up less space. The surface itself was still big enough to hold anything you could imagine but what it was mounted on seemed less bulky than before. A trend he noticed throughout the whole ship itself.

He would definitely have to take one out when he got a chance but that would not be now.

Stepping back out of the shuttle he glanced up at the side, seeing just a number. A quick glance around the other nearby shuttles he could see they were all just simply numbered. They would have to pick some names for a few of them.

The flow of various names through his mind was interrupted by the chirp of his combadge and the voice of his XO, "Captain, we're ready to get moving."

Olan nodded and made his way toward the nearest turbolift, "Thank you, Commander. Resume our previous course, warp five. I'll be in my ready room."

There was paper work to do. There was always some kind of paper work to do but regardless he still smiled at the inside door of the turbolift as it closed.

They had a new ship, new tools and some new crew but mostly, they were moving forward again.
